Hey Pollard stop agreeing to these games

15k tickets @ $50 is $750k. Plus parking. Plus concessions.

And then you need to consider the possible negative financial consequences of losing to Ohio or Ark St. We are currently #14. We will probably drop after nearly losing in Jonesboro.

If it is me, I vote for playing the two ”cheapest” teams at home plus the Iowa game in the non-con. I don’t care if it is Albany or UMass or Waldorf College. Just play the cheapest teams AT HOME because there is nothing to gain from playing away games against decent competition. Play somebody who is happy to come to Ames and take a paycheck that fits with our financials.
The CHEAPEST teams won't be the WORST teams. Everybody wants an easy home victory. So you're bidding against 70 other teams, and 50 of those teams have deeper pockets than we do.

If you want CHEAP home games, you have to work with teams who will have lower demand. And those will be higher quality teams, more likely to win the game.

The game today was scheduled over a decade ago. At a time that we had the lowest donations in the conference and most of the then P5. In the current B12 we compare better in donations, but most of the new schools get financial help from their university. Vegas and Tulane are intentional destination game. The sec and big can afford to buy whatever they want. It’s more fair to compare how often we are doing home and homes versus the rest of the B12 and ACC. G5 aren’t buyer, they are the buyees. I hated today’s game and wish we could have 7 home games every year. I also understand that it’s a financial issue and the current environment won’t make it any easier, unfortunately.
A lot of ADs are struggling with huge debts. This has been well documented. ISU has manageable debt. Are we willing to sacrifice the financial health of the entire department to avoid a few football games?

I think the Vegas and NOLA (Tulane) games are really cool ideas as a non conference game with a bowl atmosphere. FIU in Miami could work as an example.
Or maybe trying for some neutral site games like finding a team to play us in Nashville.

3 years ago you could say Vandy but they are not a joke anymore.

It's mind-blowing how many people insist that we should "just find" the $1.5 million every single year to avoid playing games like we did yesterday... as if it isn't nation-wide public knowledge that ISU will likely be operating significantly in the red in future years if we want to remain competitive in the NIL era. But yes - the AD is just supposed to find that extra $1.5 million lying around somewhere... every single year.

I swear - some fans brains don't operate in reality.

Do I like ISU playing in places like Athens, OH or Jonesboro, AR? Of course not - but I also understand why it happens and I've accepted that reality instead of ******** about something that isn't going to change anytime soon simply because the AD's finances won't allow for it to happen.

Agree, I also don’t think playing at Ark st would have been as bad if we didn’t also go to Ireland to start the year. Thats a lot of travel to start the year. It would be nice to avoid going to places like Ohio, Akron, Ark st, etc. in the future if we can.

Sell alcohol and we’re 1/3 of the way there, even with the self-serving conservative estimates provided.

If you think revenue would go to fund buying out a game every single year your brain doesn't operate in reality. It's not to say I don't think we should be selling beer at the stadium; there are just far more important factors for the program other than an unpopular game a vocal minority of fans continue to ***** about every other year.

Regardless of what the money will be used for, this program can’t cry poverty when it’s willfully leaving money on the table. It’s not a valid excuse.

Idk going to new orleans in August/September does not sound enjoyable. If only we could schedule those games in November like the SEC does....

Should we have athletes go door-to-door selling The World's Best Chocolate bars? Maybe host a monthly bake sale? Scavange the campus trash bins for cans? We're willingly leaving money on the if we don't...

Maybe we could just do what 95% of our peer institutions already do, and go from there.
