How about we just not do really dumb stuff and beat an outmatched opponent. That’d be cool too.

I agree, but how long ago did this contract get signed? We have Tulane in 28 or 29 and another non P5 in whichever of those it isn't on the road
Pollard has made it clear he wants destination games like Dublin, Vegas, Jonesboro and Bowling Green. This isn’t going away.
Way back in 2014, and added bowling green and tulane in 2018.

I think he's saying we pay them 1.5m to come here, fine. But he's not netting that out against a home game revenue. My guess is is it costs a little, but this 4m thing is just rediculous.
And if Pollard didn't schedule these games and just do more home buy games then people would ***** about higher season ticket prices.
There's also the variable of what the cost of a loss is. And road games also have travel costs.
