Dearest Cyclone Fans,
A most dire missive I pen to thee this eve. The battle at Little Rock took quite a toll on the men. They remain brave, but the spectators are wrought with woe. Some fear our season is doomed, lost to the annals of stubbornness and NIL. Our captain, Lyle Allen Jones, inspireth not. His untoward plans to attack continually in the middle of the battlefield rather than on the edges is bewildering. Our coverage softer than my dear Edna's bussom. We feareth that the time for high hope is no more. Please send care packages and milk.
Fellas - this ain't good. I should start by telling you that the Arkansas game was made worse by a couple of very bad ref calls. Calls that even the announcers were pretty adamant about. 3 led directly to either scores or scores being wiped off the board. I don't in any way mean to tell you we didn't get hammered - we did. Arkansas scored 28 points in the first 14 offensive plays. But the final probably should have been something like 49-21. I say that, but the truth is Arkansas could have easily scored another 2 TDs if they had really wanted. The final score didn't matter, because with everyone watching we simply looked like we didn't belong.
The truth is, this was a very bad night for Arkansas State. Much worse than many realize, and with way more implications than one game. We lost a ton of respect as a program in the state, and looked completely outclassed in almost every facet of the game.
If you had asked me a year ago, I would have told you that your upcoming trip to Jonesboro would be awesome. I'd probably be hyping up Raynor to Rucker. That attendance would be great, that you'll be impressed with the stadium in person and our fans. I am not so sure of that now. The weather looks hot and it's a 3PM game on big boy tv. I can't count a long list of folks who don't have any plans to go.
Butch has lost an average of 3 games per year by 28 or more points. He hired a DC with only 1 year of FBS experience - also the youngest DC in the country and he appears in over his head. Our lines are barely average, and we've lost our star RB Cross to ACL tear last week in practice. NOBODY is excited for this game. We know how good Iowa State is and I think our appetite for getting blown out is about exhausted. I know I was a lot more peppy than this last year, but I'm just done with Butch. He's stubborn, full of coach speak and empty promises. We are stuck with him for a while though because our program rewards mediocrity.
To those of you that are coming, I really hope you enjoy the trip! I still think you'll like our waterfalls. I'll be checking in here in case any questions pop-up.
