Your Biggest "Coincidence"

In the winter we travel south, from Myrtle beach to Miami, along the Gulf, Caribbean, Key West, Mexico coast both sides etc. We always wait and anticipate seeing a Hawkeye fan wearing a shirt or cap with Hawkeye symbol blazingly displayed. Never disappoints whether it's Puerto Vallarta, West Palm Beach, etc. and of course they are always arrogant douche canoes. On the other hand, we were on top of the Twin Towers when a guy next to me had an ISU shirt on but he was tastefully mature.

I was in the hotel lobby at the 5 Seasons Center, when Ann and Nancy Wison walked in, along with the rest of the band. I was too nervous to say anything. I had a huge crush on Nancy at the time.

We went to Europe last summer as a bit if a send-off before my daughter went off to college. Near the end of our trip, we were walking in Lauterbrunnen and my daughter randomly got quiet and a bit sad.

I asked her what was wrong, thinking maybe she was a bit homesick after a few weeks. She simply said, "I wish my brother could have seen this. I bet he would have loved it."

We walked for a little bit more and stopped at a restaurant with an outdoor patio. About 5 minutes after sitting down, we glanced across the road and saw an amazing double rainbow.

I got a warm fuzzy reading that and have another coincidence to share with you. My family has strong connection to Switzerland. I am called an "Honorary Citizen" of the country and if ever anyone gets to Bremgarten my family name is very prominent in businesses and families there. Most of my family has been there as have many from there have come to the USA.

I went to Kenya on a month long mission trip in college. We had a day off and went to the zoo and of course come across a guy wearing an Iowa hat… in Nairobi, Kenya

Was on a work trip (didn't have that many). Was in SFO with coworkers waiting on a connection and a guy I knew pretty well from Florida comes strolling down the concourse. He was changing planes coming back from a vacation in Hawaii. So two people from different part of the US who happened to know each other randomly meet in another part of the US.

I worked at Muscatine Hy-Vee for 4 years before I decided to go to ISU.

One of the meat-cutters from there had transferred out before I left.

I was in my dorm in Knapp Hall (RIP) and the kid in the room next door had some visitors. I heard a familiar voice. Walked out to look and it was the meat-cutter from Muscatine. He had transferred to the one in my dorm neighbor's hometown. Possibly Perry (I don't remember for sure).

My wife and I worked for the same insurance company but she was in Omaha and I worked at the West Des Moines office. Then the company decided to close our office, so I was out of a job. But then they decided to ask if anyone wanted to move to Omaha, and I figured why not. You just never know when a decision changes your whole life.

We went to Disney world several years ago. My wife wanted a picture outside of the park by the sign. My wife turns and just stops asks random woman walking by her to take our photo. The woman stops and looks at us and then says hi I’m so and so. It was a woman from her hometown that she taught in elementary school that now lives in a different state.

Saw Dennis Rodman at the Million Dollar Saloon (titty bar in Dallas) back in the early 90's. Don't know if that qualifies as coincidence, but it was amusing at the time.

My wife and I were in Greece this past spring. We traveled to a small village in the middle of Greece (around 1500 people) called Kastriki which is located near the Meteora rock formation and monastaries. When walking through the village a car pulls over and a family from our local town hop out to let us know they are visiting the monastaries too. We hardly ever run into these people in our town but we ran into them in a small village in Greece.

When my grandma needed to go into a nursing home, my mom & aunt sold her house and the lot it was on, but kept the surrounding farmland. My mom & aunt hired a longtime neighbor to tend to the fields, and kept that arrangement after my grandma passed.

Fast forward a few years. My mom & dad are down in Florida visiting Disney. My mom happens to see an employee close to their age with his nametag listing his hometown as the tiny town right next door to my mom's hometown. Mom's never met a stranger, so she starts talking to him. Turns out, this gentleman is a snowbird, and the neighbor my mom & aunt hired sub-contracted some of the field work out to this Disney employee.

Many moons ago, when living in Nebraska, husband used to cover Nebraska sports. We'd go on roadtrips on our own dime. He'd get a press pass, I'd try to find a cheap ticket. Back when Nebraska was still in the B12, we went down to Stillwater. It's just now halftime, and I find myself standing on the balcony of the end zone building that's to the right if you're watching an OSU game on TV. I'm kinda staring off into space as I'm pressed up against the wall to let people pass. I do notice a diminutive man walk past, flanked by two, much larger men. About five seconds later, still staring at nothing, I realize "Huh. That was Barry Sanders." And that was that.
