Yellowstone - new TV "western"

Rip Wheeler is one of the best characters on TV.

I love that character. Not sure if you watch the "bunkhouse boys" videos they post on the Facebook page but they had one the other week the 3 guys asked questions about who would you rather have Rip or Beth for certain scenarios like in a fight or for thanksgiving dinner that was pretty funny. One guy had a great answer, he said he'd pick Beth in a fight because you know Rip wouldn't be too far behind so it's like a 2 for 1 deal. Some of the funniest lines in the show though are when someone makes some smartass comment and he always has the perfect come back foul mouth response that shuts them up.

I like the show but it's "over the topness" is wearing on me to the point I may quit watching. Also, I can't stand the daughter I wish she'd get "put on a train".

And his softer side helping Tate with the new horse has really made him more human. So good.

He's definitely a complex character but they all kind of are too the more this series has played out. I think there must be something really bad that happened between Jamie and Beth in the past that we haven't seen yet because her hatred for him runs really deep. That scene in the barn with them after she watched Rip and Tate with the horse I think has some clues behind what it could be with how those 2 scenes were setup.

I keep going back and forth on who my favorite character on the show is because they all have such great moments. The 1 I don't really care for so far though is Monica. Holy crap make up your mind on what you want woman. Either you are onboard with the life you'd have being with Kacey or you're not. Kind of like she is trying to have the best of 2 completely different ways of life.

Fun show. Nothing special and a bit corny, but overall I like it.

The soundtrack is great - the off-beat country music they use in it is perfect.

Not going into details yet so I don't spoil it for anyone who hasn't watched tonight's season finale but tonight was by far was the best episode yet of this show. I'm satisfied with how the season ended and they still left eager for season 3 next summer.

Here's a great story I want to share (I hope the link works):

Not only is Rip a very likable character on TV, the actor who plays him is awesome too.

So my thoughts on the season finale:

- Kevin Costner may be the biggest star on the cast but Cole Hauser as Rip Wheeler has probably become the biggest star of the show. His character is so dynamic and he plays it so well. He can be a badass one moment then a big teddy bear the next. The scenes with him and Beth where she read him the letter that John considers him a son and is leaving the ranch to him in the trust was great. Then the series of events where Kayce asks him to go on their mission to rescue Tate and he says "I'll draw their fire" made you wonder if he was going on a suicide mission then the scene with him and John on horses right before he went in were just as great. If he was killed off I'm not sure the show lives on past season 3. I have a feeling that season 3 will have an emphasis on Rip and Beth.

- Dan Jenkins - Sad to see him killed off, while I hated his character in season 1 where they left us with a cliff hanger if he would be alive for season 2 I liked how they developed his character this season. I found myself rooting for him when he was in the pantry with a gun watching the guy looking to kill him then while wounded after the 2nd guy shot him and he was watching the 3rd guy saying "I have a right to be here" I was hoping he would kill the 3rd guy and live to see another day.

- Monica - I have not liked her character this season but the scene where she tells Kayce to promise her he would kill the Beck Brothers was a moment when she realized when someone you love is involved you'll do anything to protect the family and her and John so have something in common.

- Teal Beck - what a way to go, shot begging for your life while you are on the crapper.

-Malcolm Beck - So did he die or will he be in season 3? John says he called for a chopper to get him to a hospital but Malcolm says he won't make it till then. There is a part of me that hopes this story line is not over just like how we weren't sure Dan Jenkins would live or die after season 1 when he was left hanging on a noose. Neal McDonough has been a great addition to this cast so I hope he's back.

Looks like they are going to introduce some new characters in season 3. Have a gut feeling this show is headed towards the same fate as another show I really got into that ended too soon and that was the Friday Night Lights series on NBC. I'll be thrilled if Yellowstone lasts at least 5 seasons but I have a feeling this will be a show that ends in the same fashion while ratings are high and the story lines are not stale. The season 2 finale topped the cable ratings again.

So who here has been watching season 3 so far? This show just keeps getting better and the new characters have added a new dimension to some of the story lines too. Enjoying how some of the story lines with some of the secondary characters keeps expanding too and we finally found out why Beth hates Jamie so much too. I hope this show keeps going for awhile because it just keeps getting better with each new episode and the acting is really good too.

The first few episodes of this season seemed slow and uneventful, but you can tell they are building up to some exciting **** come later in the season.

I love the new character Teeter and find her foul mouthed gibberish funny while it also seems like she maybe has a bit of a thing for Colby possibly too. Although as I told my wife a gal with a mouth like that who also spits chew would be a huge turn off. Already had a badass Rip scene with the bikers too, everyone needs a Rip Wheeler in their life to take care of the dirty work IMO.

But yeah I see some big stories unfolding as they build up to the hostile take over of the ranch that is brewing. The scene at the bar with Beth in the last episode was great when she reminded the guy it hasn't turned out well for the other people who have tried to get their land.

I will update my comment. Great show, my favorite TV show in a long time. Really well done with great acting.

this season started off a little slow but it’s picking up and I like where it’s going.

I wanted to start watching but they never put all of season 1 on demand
Seasons 1 and 2 are available on Peacock, which I had never heard of — nine total episodes for season 1, and ten for season 2. I downloaded the Peacock app on iPad (free), and watched the first episode (also free). It appears the remaining season 1 and 2 episodes are Premium, $4.99 per month, but free for the first seven days. So I imagine you could cancel the first week and not be charged.

This is an NBC app and has a lot of other content, like TV programs, available for free.

I watch little TV, but find this convenient and with a lot of their free content, something I’ll probably use.

Hard to believe there are only 2 more episodes left this season as there is a ton of stuff going on right now so must be a big cliff hanger coming at the end. The truck rides with Rip have been some funny scenes lately and the new female characters have been great additions too. Really cool also how they have incorporated the Native American missing people stories this season too which is an actual real life issue that gets little media attention. Taylor Sheridan has struck gold with this TV show I think and I hope it lasts several more seasons as it has been very well written and directed along with some great acting too and lots of attention paid to little details that make the show have a very authentic feel to it. Curious to see what is next after Lloyd and Rip came across Walker singing at the bar on their little road trip with the horse. "Sh** ain't he supposed to be dead?" was a great line when he Lloyd turned around and saw who was singing.
