Do you think having a common vision for having 115 players from all walks of life living, breathing, performing and acting as 1 is racist? Is the way Iowa leaves the field racist? Is having a dress code for the entire team racist?

He's out of touch.
You've missed a lot of the story. What's came out has been a ton more than Kirk having a dress code players must follow.

No - it's 2 people looking for a common bond with which to form some sort or relationship. If your goofy enough to see an Asian and go overboard about Jackie Chan and sweet and sour pork - it means you are socially awkward. If you sneer and call him a name, that's racist and bigotry.

Straight up proving my point right here.

I didn't say it was two people looking for a common bond--it's one person assuming something about another based on how they look and doing the talking for them.

If two people talk about what they do for work, or where they're from, that's two people finding a common bond.

It's social awkwardness. It's the dork at the party. The simple act of trying to connect with another human being on a personal level is rarely bad.

If you see a black guy wearing a bulls hat, is it OK to start a conversation about basketball?

there is so much to follow with this ongoing story at Iowa its impossible to follow. I've heard many accusations and almost all of them-- to me-- sound like old school hard knocks coaching and not racism.

No hoodies. No rap music. No visible tattoos. No spitting.

All of those were filed as claims of racism. That's where I get confused

Was hard core metal or Hank Jr. allowed to be played?

I need to read more up on the Iowa thing but I did see something as I understood it, how black players were basically treated like they were there to play football as their only purpose, less support academically vs. white players, etc.

I did have a convo with someone who pulled out the 'Well coaches talked that way to players all the time long ago' vs. their strength coach, like it was OK at any time.

How is basing your conversation off of stereotypes or preconceived notions a personal level?

You should change your name to Madguyatminorities. Seems to fit you better.

I'll just stop now as there's plenty of things you have no idea about in regards to me in posting this sort of thing...it's pretty hopeless here.

I'm out of this convo. Not my monkeys, not my circus. And you can NOT label me something I am not.

If you're serious about racial justice, take a stand beyond flapping your gums on an anonymous chat board. Put some skin in the game. Make a sign, organize a march against the racist Iowa program. Otherwise you're just another stupid opinion in a sea of stupid opinions - mine included.

toodles.

I didn't label you as anything and apologize if you took it that way.

I've had similar conversations with people that lean with the people you're talking about in the bolded, that don't want to acknowledge what's wrong with the scenarios in my above thoughts (and some from personal experiences i.e. 'putting skin in the game', not just opinions).

It also came out they drug tested far more black players than white, despite making up FAR less of the demographic of the team. The report stated black athletes were given harsher punishments for similar offenses. You stated this but it was reported black athletes were not given the same opportunities within their academics.

There's more that was found that I'd have to go back into the report and note, but it didn't stop there. There were allegations naming numerous coaches, including Kirk and Brian. Doyle's obviously gone but he was mentioned as the largest problem. Another pretty big allegation came from a player who said a couple of coaches gave him the derogatory nickname "simple jack" because he struggled in the classroom.. The kid had ADHD. Coaches also posted his grades on the white board which would be a huge violation.

Sounds like you two are arguing about Sheldon on The Big Bang Theory show.

That moment when you realize you should have just stayed in the 'positive things' thread.

Who's to say he or she isn't already doing these things? Are you making an assumption based on your bias of people who post on message boards to assume that? Huh. Weird how that works.

I heard it was 80s rock that's all I know.

But that illustrates my point. It's Kirk playing old man music that he likes. It isn't necessarily that he's racist, he's just an old man.

But this argument is getting ridiculous. I'm going to stop
