Wrestling Press Conference Scheduled for Tomorrow

Took my high school daughter on a campus visit today. Our tour guide highlighted football and men’s basketball (since students have to buy tickets), then noted all other sports are free and was especially excited about women’s wrestling as a new sport for students to support. Was happy to see the word spread quickly on campus.

Interesting they’re just converting the old gymnastics facility in Beyer for the women. Seems like the perfect time to do something else
Is the old gymnastics room the even older wrestling room, upstairs in Beyer? I rolled around a few times up there.

Better cut women's tennis to get more regional!!
You are still here crying and whining, which appears to be just like the gymnastics team.

At some point people get sick of the crying and drama, and they eliminate the problem.

Either move on and support the new sport, or just quit crying.

Women's gymnastics was not the first sport eliminated at ISU and I doubt it will be the last. Just the way things go.

Gymnastics had to go. Effectively swapping it for wrestling was a good move.

How it all went down was maybe not the best.

They’d need to do them both at the same time but I think it’s a good idea.

Doing them at the same time would be a terrible idea for events that will generate considerable interest. Bad for both revenue and the fans trying to watch. Not sure who it would benefit.

I think for a new program like women’s wrestling combining with an established program to make a huge event would be better. But there’s a good chance I’m wrong, it’s just an opinion.

What about the men’s and women’s programs having a concurrent meet where the men wrestle West Virginia and the women wrestle Grand View?

It gets more people in the door for the women’s program, without having to use their likely most attended solo meet of the year.

Doing it for the first meet of the year when it’s usually a bad team isn’t a bad idea as a one off. No way they should make it an every meet thing but doing Sunday day night double headers would be cool

I think the suggestion to do this against someone besides Iowa makes more sense. And once Cytown is open, both meets the same day with two hours between them makes a ton of sense.

Maybe. But not for the Iowa dual. The first ISU/Iowa women’s dual will be a very big event that doesn’t need to be paired with anything, let alone an already very popular event in the men’s dual.

Having them at the same time would be a disservice to the teams and fans alike.

How do you split the revenue between the programs if you have a concurrent meet? Or is that not really part of the consideration in AD finance?

Thanks for the advice Callie.
