Winter Weather Feb 25th-27th:

They are predicting 3-5 inches in far east Iowa and less than that everywhere else. Don't think we need to run to the store for the milk and bread yet.

I see what you're trying to do here. You're not going to fool me to keep the lines shorter. I'm getting prepared for getting snowed in for 3 weeks minimum.

NWS DSM bought the early guidance hook line and sinker. Now they have changed their tune. DVN and KCRG held off on predicting any amounts until this morning. Although they have removed good chunks from the watch they still have CR getting 4" although outlined in a "hard to predict zone". KCRG is going with 1" or less for a large area.

At this point in the season give me a bunch or nothing. Don't make me contemplate if I should clean up an inch of snow.

Exactly! A massive amount or nothing at all. I remember a March snow when I was a kid. Was at the grocery store with my mom and it had just started to snow a bit heavier than it had until then. All of a sudden there was a bright flash. People looked at each other like it was the end of the world. That was, of course, followed by a loud boom, and then rolling thunder. My first “thunder snow”. Must have snowed a foot that day. It was great.

Something my old man always says, “March. Comes in like a lion. Out like a lamb”.

It looks like we're down to 1" to 2" on Tuesday for Des Moines area with high winds. Kind of crappy but not too bad.

Every year I have to point out that it doesn't get warm in Iowa until May. People seem to think March is supposed to be some warm weather month. March is 35-55 degrees on average.

I'd take 35-55 right now. Even 45 this weekend I pulled the bike down and started getting it ready. Once the snows off the trails, it's warm enough for me.

For me at least, that 40-50s is a big turning point. Run out to grab mail without bundling up and freezing, take a stroll with a sweatshirt on, any snowfall would soon melt anyway...

But I agree, it does seem like there is a pretty wide public perception of COLD being in December/January/February only. Bring on the mud/slush season!

Got mine out Saturday and rode the Trestle Trail from Madrid to Woodward. Was clear until a mile or two past the bridge than it was 100% snow covered so I detoured around to the south on gravel. There were other riders out but definitely more walkers/joggers.
