Williams & Blum: Recapping a crazy 10 days

This is going too far into the Blum's family's personal life but his wife seems very much involved so i assume it takes a lot of both of their time, basically an unpaid employee. I guess the collective could pay someone else but people would complain about that too. So I really don't think he's being overcompensated, especially when they have to pay for their own insurance plus retirement, etc.

With how important ISU is to all of us and how important the collective has been to success these past few years Blum is not being overcompensated, imo.

Plus I assume other non-profit CEOs don't get routinely trolled and berated by people online like Blum does which in of itself is worth some extra compensation lol.

I’m just glad this NIL conversation has turned from potentially losing Joshua Jefferson, Milan Momcilovic and Rocco Becht into whether my compensation is appropriate. And if any non-profit fundraisers in Iowa want to negotiate with agents on a daily basis (who often get $100,000 just for proofreading a contract), I’m all for them taking my place.
I'm sure there are thousands of ISU fans knocking on the door to have your job, oh there isn't? lol.

Keep up the good work.

You don't have to take things personally. I'm just saying even if you are being undercompensated, in the grand scheme of things in a place like Iowa you're doing very well for yourself.

Yeah, don't let FinalFourCy's lingering hissy fit over "losing" Cluff and Rohde and resulting idiotic blame game on JP get to you and other posters.

Keep up the great work!
Both of those guys voiced that $$$ was not the only indicator. Sure they want it to be close, but are some of our fans dumb enough to think a 6' 11' white guy might not see value in Purdue and their coaching staff? The highest bidder doesnt always win.

Joshua Jefferson stayed for coaching, not $$$. Can't be a shock if other players we are after do the same

Candidly, it’s hard not to take things personally when folks are discussing your family’s livelihood.

In the grand scheme of things he works a national job, how about you compare his salary to other NIL collective guys?

128k is not a lot in the grand scheme of things.

Well. I apologize then if I came off as personally attacking. You're doing a great job, it's just not something I personally believe in and am annoyed with the entire system right now.

I appreciate the work you and your wife have to wake up each day and put Iowa State in the best possible position. It’s clear you’re incredibly competitive, and Cyclone fans everywhere should be grateful for someone who brings that kind of drive and attitude every single day. You consistently push boundaries, launching new initiatives to boost fundraising, and beyond that, you and your family are genuinely good people. At the end of the day, that’s what I value most. When good people are all rowing in the same direction, we can accomplish great things. I believe that this is also reflected in our athletic director, administration, and coaching staff by the results in the classroom and on the field.

Blum running We Will is the primary reason why I donate to We Will. I have never spoken face to face with him but he seems like a good steward of my small donations.

Speaking of comparing to other collectives… At some point during just about every Williams & Blum pod, I think how fortunate we are to get a bi-weekly in-depth conversation with Blum. How many collective leaders across the country are giving their fans a peek behind the curtains like that? Can’t be many, if any

In what world is $128,000 a year salary being undercompensated? I live in Iowa where the average income is $38,000 per person. I don't know what kind of place some of you live.

I used to bring in millions of premium in underwriting and made about $55,000 a year. My wife currently gives out millions of dollars in grants through a non-profit to help impoverished areas of Iowa and doesn't even make 100k.
But what was your loss ratio on your book?

/s

Not certain why I’m defending myself on here, but for full honestly I left the Iowa State Foundation where these are the salaries of the leadership. This is looking more appealing by the day to go back to. :)

Appreciate everyone’s support.
You're honestly underpaid imo. We would be f'd without you and I know you could go make a lot more elsewhere. I have no doubt you work a ton of hours too. Thanks for all you do!

Sorry the conversation went there. All of this (current college sports climate, NIL, etc) is such an emotional thing for so many and i know i for one have appreciated you taking the leap and truly trying to do it in a way that not only helped our athletes, but also good causes. Of course with each passing month (or day) the landscape shifted and adjusted, too.

No school make money from the WBB team, the tickets are dirt cheap compared to the mens game, and right now they just do not get enough media revenue to make up the difference. Over to the east, the EIU women sold out very game, and had a decent season, while the mens team was horrible and fired its coach, playing to crowds that on average were around 4/5,000 in attendance. The men made a profit of around $4 million while the women lost $2 million, the year before, it will be worse this season.
Iowa averaged 5500 we averaged 9800.

Do you feel obligated not to use the Ignore feature on CF? If you and others didn't respond to a few posters, I would never even know that they had posted anything because they are on my Ignore list. Makes for a much more pleasant CF experience.

I like being as transparent as possible as that is often a complaint about NIL these days! I'm an open book.
