Williams & Blum: Is Iowa State’s 2026-27 basketball roster final?

I could make a long list of CW and Blumisms

"to be quite candid"
"fascinating"
"It just is"
"It just isn't"
"Right?"
"I could make the argument..."
"literally"
"the ckkkkqquuestion is" Blum may have the hardest w sound in North America

In Blum's defense on "C-Dub", he's learned to use that at the end of a sentence to make sure CW doesn't interrupt him.
Better get use to—“I talked with someone at Penn St……”

Yeah, intellectually riveting stuff. Youre a poet with the keyboard and I couldn't look away.
You claimed to read the entirety of my post before commenting, yet... you more or less said something i said in that post. You should take some time today to go outside and get some fresh air, maybe take a few deep breaths and touch some grass while you're out there

I think his shot looks good and his main problem is he was streaky, which probably somewhat due to being a freshman and hitting a couple walls physically and then the mental side of the game, which we should expect to improve

First 9 games: 9-22 (41%)
Next 9 games: 2-17 (12%)
Next 8 games: 9-21 (43%)
Final 5 regular season games: 0-11
6 postseason games: 6-12 (50%)

I could easily see him making a leap to the 40% range with a full offseason of work
It seems to me that he shot better when he was expected to carry part of the offense, as he was when Lipsey and Jefferson were out. Perhaps there was some hesitation in his shot or in his mind when the team was at full complement. That'd be enough to throw it off.

I really wish that Buchanan could develop a little jump shot from just inside the lane (yes, something like a free throw). Defenders weren't forced to cover him when he would get the ball near the free throw line.

I'm excited to see our bigs be here long enough to develop. We haven't had much continuity at that spot other than Jefferson, who wasn't a traditional big. I'm hopeful that will lead to the development of a serviceable jumpshot to keep teams honest.

I think Killyan's biggest need to improve his three-point shot is getting his feet set. Many times this season I think he was looking to pass when he got the ball. He has a decent enough looking stroke from three. I'm most excited for all to see his improvement

Big Rob? George Condit, although he needed more time with TJ.

“Right?” Has to be near top of list as most frequent.

Others that are fairly common are “having said that” and “it’s gonna be really hard.”

So their podcast is in the English language, how annoying.
You guys act like every other word out of their mouth is "YOLO", "bruh", and "cap". Or whatever the kids are saying these days.

Any idea on when the new assistant coach will be named? Excited to see who it is. I was hoping Buckley would bring a Cincinnati player or two, but I’m happy with who we got in the portal.

Prather worst-case to me is another Jaren Holmes, who was a pretty good player for us.

Johnson best-case another Tamin Lipsey

Singleton best-case another Jefferson

Not sure on a comp on Bond but he's "athletic"

Sign me up!
When I found out who we were targeting, I felt like I completely understood the strategy.

This year’s team was very well constructed. Maybe missing a couple of pieces, but very well constructed. Why not try to get back to that, somewhat, and add to it if possible.

First…I’d expect the returning guys to all be better next season, so you don’t necessarily need to replace Lipsey, Jefferson, Heise and now Momcilovic competely, but try to get “like” players.

- Johnson is Lipsey-esque: Floor general, tough, good ball handler, really good/great on ball defender; to be seen is if he has a nose for loose balls like Tamin. Tamin seemed to be able to see a couple steps ahead and just be in the right place and the right time (not many have that innate ability)
- Singleton is Jefferson-esque: Big body that can do a lot of things well. Can handle it, rebound, score around the bucket, pass. Will see if he can knock down shots, but that wasn’t really JJeff’s game until later on
- Bond is Heise-esque: great defender, good rebounder from the wing position. More athletic, maybe a more consistent shooter, but to be seen if he can tap into Heise’s bulldog mentality
- Prather is likely who we wanted Nelson/Williams to be. We never got to see Williams, but I’m guessing Prather can give us more than Nelson. Prather can shoot from outside, can handle the rock and knocks down FTs. Nelson could really do only one of those things
- Manning hopes to be what we were missing last year. A guy who can legitimately spell Singleton at the 4. We don’t need him to do much other than not be a liability. Keep up defensively, rebound and finish when necessary.

Again…these guys are not 1:1 replacements, but if we get the development from the returning guys like we hope, the team itself comes closer to the team we had this year.

EDIT: If we can get Buchanan and Pleta to be 70%+ FT shooters, that would be absolutely fantastic.

So TJ kept to an 8 man rotation for the most part. I think it stems from when you got to player 9 and beyond, there was a decent drop off. So... will he go deeper than 8 players this upcoming season? It seems that with this new roster, he can (and will) go more than 8 players. I guess we will see.
Maybe we’ll go full Nolan Richardson 40 Minutes Of Hell and we’ll need 10+ guys to keep up the intensity.

The other transfers will likely all play -

Manning as the backup PF
Prather and Bond as the Milan/Heise type wings

That's 9 - which is probably the starting point. Then it's a question of whether the freshman or Mitchell force their way into the rotation.
I'm hoping one or two of the freshmen are good enough to earn some playing time...

Good post. Damn, you got me pumped for next year. I'm really excited about this team. The amazing thing is because TJ go these guys so early in the process, it means he wasn't settling for anything. Kind of felt like we settled for Williams and Nelson, partly because we probably didn't have the $. It doesn't feel like that this time around, these are guys

I feel like we missed on an early portal target at guard, then Williams was the backup for that, then Nelson the backup for that after "Williams actually can't play at all" emerged.

I might be mixing two years here though. Was "J'Vonne Hadley is a Cyclone" just last year or that was two years ago already?
