Chris Williams and Brent Blum react to the Cyclones' 16-13 victory over Iowa. Is Iowa State becoming the top program in the state? Recapping a weird week for the Big 12 and what it means for the big picture. All this and more presented by Mechdyne.

Enjoy!

IMO winning with fun offense, like last season, helps the cool factor.

Hopefully Mouser keeps having games in which they put the pedal down, even though our defense may be better this year

WVU lost to a MAC school and got an at-large. Most of these losses by the conference are less incriminating…such is the country club that is CFB

Fox did a great job showcasing Iowa St, especially considering they are the BIG’s primary benefactor.

I no longer see a lot of upside to antagonizing a majority of the state by championing ISU overtaking Iowa. To survive realignment we’re going to need State/state help.

It's always great when ISU gets showcased nationally. If you love college football in the general sense, there's a lot to like about how it's done in Ames, and it's been that way for a good while. That comes across when people visit. Just now it's paired with pretty good on the field success.

Via my Mason City hs teacher friend. ISU, via jerseys alone has surpassed Iowa jerseys, Bigtime of late.
He says the turn-around can be directly linked to CMC's tenure, punctuated by Purdy
Now if he can just mention that to Deckers in MC. They are certain that north Iowa is heavy Iowa country. Although I would put it as 50/50 at worst if you throw out the Walmart buyers.

We’ve done a great job over the last 9 months between this, Ireland and the Pop Tarts bowl win. A lot of national spotlights we came out on top for. Great for program recognition.

Growing up in MC, Hawks Ruled.
Hard to say but I'd GUESS "80-20."
Very few clone fans.
Apparently that's changed.
What Iowa hs kid wouldn't prefer Matt over KF?
As well, this Younger generation views our player's as "cool, " as opposed to Iowa's lack of "color."

Pregame show featured video of a lineup of hawks (7-9) holding hands.
Nary a person of color.

To me, just weird.

I, too was commenting in the stands how it was the most pro Iowa State I’ve seen Jack Trice for the CyHawk. We’ve turned a lot of “corners” as a program but this one seems like a big deal. It certainly helped that Iowa had a lackluster week 1 performance and fans are sick of the offense.

I'll believe that Iowa State has turned the corner in regard to the sentiments of the young athletes in this state when we win the majority of the in-state head-to-head recruiting battles with EIU. That hasn't happened yet (for example, 2026 recruits Hudson Parliament, Carson Nielsen, Kasen Thomas, etc.).

Iowa State has a better perception nationally than it does in state.

Haydenism still reeks across the state.

Speaking of Iowa State now being "cool"-- do we have any idea what Metro Boomin was doing in Ames? That was kind of wild.
