Will Iowa talk to Pollard?

Did you read this post from one of the EIU fans?

"And, I don't think Iowa would appreciate the O.J. Mayo type thugs that would be running around in Iowa City. Remember Kenny Pratt? You think Pierre Pierce was bad pub..."

Comparing Pratt to Pierce? Somebody's been sniffing way too much coke and I'm not talking about the kind where the bubbles would irritate your nose...:baffled5wh:

Does that Iowa fan think that McDermott recruited Kenny Pratt...?

This is all nonsense talk...

1.) Pollard would not let Iowa talk to GMac
2.) GMac is not going to take another in-state job 1 year after switching schools, it would be a PR nightmare.
3.) Why would GMac want to take over that mess when he just spent the last year building a nice foundation for success at ISU?
4.) Why would GMac want to deal with all the Hawkeye fans that in a couple years would probably want to fire him too just like they have with about every coach lately. There are even fans calling for Kirk Ferentz's job which is just stupid.

Again, I am not saying Iowa would talk to McDermott, or that Pollard would let them, or that McDermott would consider going to Iowa. I'm asking if anyone thinks Iowa will take that step and ask to talk to him.

They won't ask because Pollard will let everyone know they asked to talk to G-Mac and it will be a nightmare for Iowa. They would be the laughing stock of the country, as if they weren't already for buying all those websites.

.... actually, that might make it worth them asking Pollard that.

If Barta doesn't have the gonads to fire Alford, he definitely doesn't have the gonads to call Pollard and ask to McDermott.

He may be a wuss, but he's not stupid.

I think Barta will go for a name coach. Iowa is a big enough "name" playing in the Big 11 that they can get a coach from a high major in my opinion. Plus, Barta can take the money they saved from not having to pay Alford's severence package and spend it on the recruitment of a good coach. I am not of the opinion that they have to hire a mid major coaching prospect.

Wow...I loved reading the hawknation thread! Really a good laugh!

Having said that, if iowa calls to talk to McDermott, Pollard will let them. I doubt iowa will call but if they do Pollard will let them talk. He is a coach under contract, not an indentured servant for heaven's sake!

Again, I don't think the call will happen but, heck, if we end up having an opening I am confident we will get an even better coach!

To paraphrase Bo Schembechler back when Frieder took the Arizona State job..."I want an ISU man to coach ISU"!

If you are Gary Barta, there is no way that you can sell Greg McDermott. Yes, we think that he is a pretty good coach, and has a bright future. But Iowa has no choice at this point but to open up the checkbook, and hire a name. They have to hire someone that will make their entire fanbase happy, because they are going to be bad next year.

They have to hire a guy that their fans are excited about, and will keep them coming out as they try to rebuild that thing (think a basketball equivalent of Gene Chizik).

If you don't think that Iowa hiring Greg McDermott from Iowa State would get the Iowa fan base excited, then you are dilusional. That might be the most ridiculous thing I've read all day.

You're right, it is speculation. I wanted to see if any of you thought that Iowa wouid take a chance.

For the life of me...I canNOT see Gary Barta calling Jamie Pollard just to get turned down.

"I hope Greg and me can both retire from Iowa State together."...Quote from Jamie Pollard

Fools! Gary Barta has just called the Dark Hemisphere of Eternia for permission to talk to my evil coach, Wayne Morgan. Mwhahahahaha! No way, Barta! Wayne's soul is mine, all mine!

I would take the contrarian view on this.
First, if Barta is interested in Greg the process begins way before asking Pollard for permission. When it gets to that point, the ink is all but dried on the contract figuratively. Iowa's unofficial representatives would have already talked to Greg's attorney or agent or whatever.
Second, if Iowa is really talking about 1.5 million for a new coach, Greg would be a fool not to pursue a $800,000 raise. Who on this board can say with a straight face they wouldn't take a $800,000 raise?

No Skeletor; your reign of horror in Eternia is officially coming to an end. Tomorrow, I will be freeing the captive Wayne Morgan to become the new Iowa Head Coach. Your days of terror are over!

I have the power!!!!!

Is there anyone out there??? It is so obvious. Open your eyes people. Do you think it is just coincidence that Tom Davis quit at Drake?:rolleyes5cz::laugh8kb::wink0st:

Ha Ha Ha, I think GMac likes beating Iowa more than coaching them. Yeah and Pollard scares the **** out of Bart. I would love to hear that conversation! I think it would end with Pollard telling Bart in a very polite and administrative kind of way to go **** himself.

You crack me up. As much as we, as Cyclone fans, like to say that "boy we stole Mac from Iowa," truth is, Mac would have been a tough sell to the Hawk community, coming off 3 straight NCAA berths at UNI. He would have been on their list, but not at the top. He was a tough sell to the Iowa State fans a year ago at this time, remember.

The only people that would be "excited" about Greg, is the segment of the Hawk population that hates Iowa State. And that would only be so they could rub our noses in it, now if he could coach that would win more people over as time went by, but initially it would be harder for him there than it ever was here.

Now I think Mac is a great coach, and he will do great things at Iowa State, I am not saying anything bad about his coaching (like the person who I am responding to did during the season).

I do remember this. It used to frustrate the hell out of me. A lot of cyclone fans on this board hardly gave McDermott a chance.

A year later, we're nothing but optimism. /shrug

ha ha ha hawk fans crack me up they think they can get tubby or the coach from wazooo

I also think this is all nonsense as well. But Barta doesn't have to ask for permission, there is no rule for that its just professional courtesy to ask.
