Wieben Headed to Greece for Pro Career


AMES, Iowa – Nicky Wieben has never lived more than 20 minutes from home and now she will live more than 22 hours (by plane) from Ankeny, Iowa, when she begins her professional basketball career in Ptolemaida, Greece.

“When the season was over I got an agent,â€￾ Wieben said. “There were a couple of people who wanted to represent me and I picked the one that I felt would best suit me. I sent him a highlight tape of a couple of games from this season and he sent those out to teams. He got some offers from teams in Spain, Turkey and Greece. This past week he called and said that he found a team that was really good for American rookies and would be well suited for me.â€￾

The 6-4 center is ready just to be back on the court. She hurt her left foot toward the end of Iowa State’s NCAA second round game vs. Ball State in Bowling Green, Ky. Since that time she has been in either a boot or a cast. She pushed through the injury to help lead the Cyclones to their second NCAA Elite Eight appearance in school history. In the beginning of May, she had an MRI and CAT scan on that foot and found out that she had torn ligaments.
