why NDSU will beat ISU.

I think I met those guys once. Wait? What?
I've never met those guys before, but I'm pretty sure I've flown on the third one... The Concorde or Concordia or something like that... ah who cares, they both sound the same. :cute::wink:

NDSU will bring OLD TIME TOUGH GUY football and dominate the trenches, and that's why I think NDSU will win.

I know I know, you guys will trash this thread trying to belittle NDSU, but I know if these guys perform and our QB and RB's explode, NDSU will win.

12 days!!
Dude, ISUs Oline is bigger than that...

Drew and the few of you that are smart enough to figure this out:

IM NOT COMPARING OUR O LINE with YOUR O LINE.!!!

Im saying that our O LINE pushing your D line around will be the KEY to NDSU winning this game.

wow. talk about some "DENSE" people on here... most of you guys on this board are cool... but WOW..

LAKE BISON,what kind of stuff have you been smokin????must cause a lot of hallucinations.right????????i think you have the teams mixed up. when you are off the smoking stuff, your mind will clear up and you will come to your senses and you will be declaring that the cyclones will win!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think what Drew is trying to say is that OUR O LINE pushing YOUR defense around will be something that will help ISU win the game.

Thats exactly what im saying. You cant just say you will win because your line is bigger than our Dline. Our Oline is way bigger than yours too. so your statement doesnt make sense.

not saying we are going to win, even though i certainly believe we could but lakes is right in a way.

If we have any chance of winning at all our oline is going to have to have a great game. If we can run the ball we keep your best unit off the field and chew up clock. If our QB has some time to scan the field and complete a few passes it would certainly be nice and a big improvement from last season I just hope someone informed him that we will be wearing white in Ames and not red.

We always win our opening game of the year

Just ask

Austin Peay

Concordia-St Paul

they will tell you how we DOMINATE

only heard of concordia st paul on that list, they aren't good at football! no one cares about previous games with different players! as of right now ndswho football is at best a 6-5 team. they have a decent dline and average lb's who will look lost when 5 wr line up for isu. bizon secndary is small and slow! I expect isu to throw a lot to build a lead and run most of the 2nd half clock out. bizon offense has potential to run the ball, but due to such a poor passing game isu will bring 7,8,9 @ a time and force mertens and his middle school wr group to make plays. I have a feeling mertens throws 2 picks in the first half, ndswho brings in that midget juco transfer, he plays worse then mertens but is able to score a couple td's in garbage time to make the score look better than what acually happened!isu 31 ndswho 13

Not to condone Lake Bison's stupidity, but if I have learned anything in my time as an Iowa State fan it is that no game is a sure thing. Confidence and optimism is at times a dangerous thing as a Cyclone fan (see UNI, Baylor a few years ago, Hampton, Morningside, ect...). Plus with a new coach and all an all new system, I think we will win this game, but I wouldn't be at all suprised if NDSU pulled something out of their *** and at least kept it close all game.

Do we have the better faciliites, athletes, coaches, fans, ect. than NDSU? Yes. Has that stopped us from losing games we should have won before? no.

North Dakota State has a chance. But I believe this team is focused and realizes they can NOT take any game for granted. We really are not that good that we can just show up and dial in a win.

I do think that NDSU is a notch below UNI in terms of being a good football team. UNI is a very good Division I-AA program but it takes a monumental game by them combined with a lackluster game from ISU to register a win. NDSU will be a good test for a first game. They have some very good players. But they just don't have enough of them to beat ISU. If ISU has an extraordinary amount of turnovers then NDSU might win. But if ISU just puts in a very workmanlike game, then I see this being an ISU win with a score of 45-17.

NDSU just doesn't have the offensive firepower to beat ISU. The teams that upset us in the past had a very good elusive QB combined with a super quick scatback RB that could bust plays and escape and turn it into a scoring situation. NDSU doesn't have those type of players.

LAKESBISON....

Dense - making a bold statement that the reason your going to win this game based on 5 guys who's combined talent fails to compare to any other team on this years schedule or last years for ISU.....Just because your offensive line may play well against your conference does not mean squat....

Now if you want to pop off and say your offensive line has to dominate the trenches is one of the biggest keys for you to have a chance to win is a rather educated statement....

Here's my thoughts:
1. The offensive line your so proud of will not have the luxury of studying game tape to know exactly what they will see Sept. 3 - which is a huge weakness.
2. Your defense will not play an offensive team as talented as our offense all season!
3. Overall depth....to think your team has to replace 8 senior (many starters - rest significant contributors) is a daunting task for any team. Considering you lost your top three sackers from a year ago and your top two tacklers, your defense will have holes. I have heard over and over your secondary is awesome.....well check out Rice's stats - so is OC Hermans offense - it produces touchdowns.
4. Your offensive strength versus our defense - Last year your rushing attack was your strength, you've lost your leading back and our defense has undergone a makeover - who wins this battle?
5. Your offensive weakness versus our defense - does not reflect it on paper, but our secondary is very deep and talented. Under the new coaching and schemes, these players will be better utilized and without a superior running game you will be forced to pass - not good.
6. Your defensive strength versus our offense - you ranked 26 in your subdivision in passing defense. Your defense will not match up well with bigger, stronger and faster wide receivers. Not to mention the spread look, you will be forced to cover our wr with lb's in base or bring in less talented cb's that have not seen a lot of action. I look for our offense to set the stage for the game and put the pressure on your offense to score every time they have the ball.
7. Your defensive weakness versus our offense - although you ranked lower in run defense 49 and thats very respectable, losing the players you did in the front 7, you will be playing with less experienced guys going against a huge offensive line (avg 327 lbs) How will they sustain their play? Also consider that A. Robinson our projected starter has the speed to take any handoff to the house.
8. How will your defense handle the no huddle and quick pace to our offensive system? Will they be able to make normal adjustments or stay in similar defenses which this staff should be able to adjust to thus making for big plays by exploiting your weaknesses?

These are a few problems i have with your analogy, but, your welcome to it....i think you along with a lot of other NDSU fans will see a good game, but, the clones will pull away in the second half. ISU 38 NDSU 17

I truly think NDSU will win the trench and push your boys, and make holes and that's what I'm banking on!

They might not, but they can look at game tape from Rice and S. Florida.

L-Bison....

One thing to consider, your in a position where you guys may get some big gainers because learning a new system etc, people make mistakes and opportunities are there if your guys can capitalize on them is a different story.

A big deal for me is not worrying about your line PUSHING our boys around, in fact our dline is not geared as it was a year ago. Then i would be more concerned. We were a 2 gap defensive front and thus our dl was designed to eat up multiple offensive lineman. Your lines size and experience would have been a challenge. But, our change in philosophy to a more attacking DL could cause your big lineman problems. There will be holes to run to, if your back can get to them. But, i'm hoping our lb's can make some tackles and our dl get pressure and get some early turnovers or 3 and outs.

If that happens it will be a long day for your team. Because our offense is extremely talented and they will score against your defense - the only question is who gets the td's and how many we will score. This matters because if your offense becomes predictable (you have to pass) our smaller DL will cause your OL fits!!!!

OK, I've been to an ISU practice and our OL isn't exactly pushing the DL all over the field. How do you expect NDSU's OL to do it??? The answer is that they won't. The ISU DL is a little more stout than most people realize. Pass rushing may be a bit more of an issue, but if you plan on grinding it out all day against Frere, Johnson and Smith, you may be in for a long day of three and outs.

true that.

from what Im hearing at practice, we are going to be throwing 5 running backs at you. all shifty guys, all can catch a pass.

2 true freshman perhaps (which is scary!)

however, We have a 6'8' NFL prospect TE that Nick Mertens can trust and throw the jump ball too.

NDSU is smash mouth, and always have been. but I got a feeling we might surprise ISU and even our fanbase with throwing out these 5 rb's.

True enough tarheel - but, as you know, those schemes and how they intend to game plan or call the game may have to change to the personnel...I cannot believe the WR talent at Rice is as deep as the talent pool we have - thus reads or routes may be adjusted to use our strength - just as he did with his TE at Rice. On defense we don't have a George Selvie - hope somebody develops into him mysteriously, but if i had to guess we have a player that will jump to a big time player, it will be Lyle.....something about the end of last year, #55 was in on a lot of plays and this style will fit his game very well!!!!!
