Being 4.5 point favorites in a Sweet 16, losing by double digits, while Iowa is in the elite 8, is easily the most disappointing ISU game in history. The only other comparables would be the 2000 and 2001 tourney losses.
What does Iowa have to do with this loss?
Being obtuse and ignoring the circumstances surrounding this loss doesn't change the circumstances. I've been around for 4 decades of nut punches....this was the worst in memory.
I was in high school during the Fizer/Tinsley/Shirley teams. I remember the missed layup against Hampton.
The way our teams have came out flat in the Sweet 16 didn't happen this time. ISU was dominated and helpless in the second half yesterday. It was the most disappointing game for me, maybe not for you, but we can agree to disagree.
Edit: Iowa being in the elite 8 makes it sting a little more.

Milan and Heise combined 3-15 from three. Each of them had a an absolutely ****** night. We were atrocious - even by our standards - shooting FT the second half. We got murdered on the boards. Some times a good box out where we just don’t grab the ball and they turn it into a three. Two bad missed over and back calls.
You can easily see another 12 points on the scoreboard for us had every ******* break not gone against us.
Credit Tennessee. There is luck but a lot of that is created by playing harder and being the right place at right time.
Just excruciating to be missing an AA, playing the worst possible ******* game and still feeling like it could have gone our way.

I agree. I think even with Jefferson we still might have lost. At the same time, I don’t see them as a championship team, whereas I feel we could have been contenders if fully healthy. It feels a little contradictory, lol.
Not sure if Jefferson playing would have eased some pressure off Milan. If one or two other players had stepped up, we might have pulled off a win. Maybe it was just a bad matchup for us, though.

I agree, and I’m more than ready to see a team get over the hump. I would also argue that we’ve only recently been a ‘consistent’ S16 team.
Without JJ, to get to the E8 was a monumental uphill battle. I don’t care what Vegas said the spread was. With Tennessee’s size, I knew ISU would probably lose this game. At the end of the day, no way we get by Michigan without JJ. This doesn’t even come close to the 2001 Hampton game or even Fred’s first round loss his last season.
There’s a reason the spread shrank to -2.5 by tip. We needed to turn them over 20+ times and shoot it well to have a chance and make up for the rebounding. Tennessee was the better team with JJeff out.
14’ Niang foot team still had a very legit shot at E8. They just couldn’t hit free throws. That season will always remain the biggest ‘what if’ outside of 2000.
24’ was probably the other closest, game wise to pulling it off.
Maybe. Thought ISU was too short handed in the post. Only one real scorer (Jefferson).
I think most are waiting on their first pubes, so I am disregarding their takes.
Nobody has said anything about them being a bad matchup for everyone. For ISU 100% bad. Without JJ there was 3 players over 6’5, and two of those should never be on the court at the same time.
Nelson was a bad miss and Mulder was a practice body. Yes we are in a much better spot roster wise than past years, but not good enough to drop an AA and waltz to the F4.
