I'm ashamed to say this one hadn't occurred to me. The only cyclist to win the yellow, green and polka dot jersey in the same Tour (yes finish with them, not just wear them!) while winning by almost 20 minutes. He also won the green jersey when he won the tour in both '71 and '72. It is unlikely anyone will ever win two again. He has won more Tour stages than anyone else, and he wasn't just a grand tour specialist. He set a record for career wins in the classics as well. He was one of only 3 riders to win all 5 of the "monument" classics in his career. He also set the hour record on a standard track bike which stood for 12 years until it was broken by someone on a high tech time trial style bike specially designed for the hour record attempt. Such bikes are no longer allowed for the hour record.

He was so dominant and it wasn't even close.

Mercx was the best......thx for all the info too.....I miss watching the Tour this summer. I watch it every year. I think it's scheduled to start in late August. Don't know if that will happen.

You guys disagreeing with me on Jordan are so blinded by your views and nostalgia for Jordan. The competition he faced was terrible compared to these days. 80s-90s basketball wasn’t better or more gritty.

You’re not even realizing you’re watching the greatest basketball player to walk the earth play right now.

You’ll realize once LeBron retires
