Now that's a fun division that will spawn rivalries like crazy and every single destination is an easy days drive for everybody. The way it should be everywhere.
This is where Iowa state belongs

Hopefully in the 16 team league future, you would play all 7 teams in your division, 4 teams in the other division (alternating every other year), and then one non-conference game, every year. How fun would that be? Meaningful games all year

See, that makes, like, perfect sense, so of course everyone agrees that it's an almost impossible outcome.

I laugh at folks like you who state your opinion as if it were fact. Hope you'll show up to eat your words if your opinion is proved wrong.

I hope I'm totally wrong. That would be the best thing by far for ISU.

I think you can pencil in Oklahoma State and Texas Tech to the Pac 12. The biggest question is if the Big 10 will take Iowa State and Kansas. If not, then I'm guessing we'll be in the Pac 12 and Kansas either in the Pac 12 or ACC.

This is best case, IMO. I would jump for joy at that.

The Big Ten is not going to do a damn thing that would piss off their major players Ohio State, Michigan and Penn state. If you are the President and AD of those Universities what net positive does the addition of Iowa State and Kansas bring to those institutions? AAU status perhaps? I'm not familiar with the financial incentives there. I truly do not know the answer to that. If there is no net positive there is no reason to extend an invite. Folks in those positions aren't out to do anyone any favors. Quite frankly it is out of Jamie Pollards hands. If we do not strengthen their university and conference and financial standing there is nothing he can do.

Well, we would never get an invite to the Big 10 out of the blue. But if the SEC is going to 16 teams and the Big 10 thinks the Pac 12 will follow suit, they may feel the need to jump to 16 now also so that they can get their choice of the Big 12 leftovers before the Pac 12 gets them. With Texas and Oklahoma apparently off the table for them, and ACC schools and Notre Dame looking unlikely for contractual reasons, that leaves only the Big 12 and non-P5 schools. If that's what the Big 10 is left to choose from, we have a fighting chance at least.

Your right, the Big 10 doesn't need to add teams, but if they think the Pac 12 is going to add teams, then they probably will do so as well in order to make sure they get their pick first.

In which of those categories would ISU be the desired target?

Dont get me wrong, the Big 10 would be ideal... I just dont see it happening.

Well we would certainly help fill stadiums in Minnesota, Illinois, Northwestern. Probably still bring a lot of fans to Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Iowa.

We churn out about 30,000 grads a year so I’d guess our subscription numbers would be pretty good. Have a rabid fan base that sells out.

Grant money - not very familiar with this but I think we do decent.

Eyeballs watching the game - I think our bowl game has great numbers and we typically do pretty well even in smaller games.

Program relevance - pretty good in both

Regional fit - I’m not sure how much they care anymore about this, but I always think about sports like softball and volleyball and wrestling where it gets prohibitive to fly all these teams to the west or east coast for games.

Donor money/AD revenue is where I think we lack the most

Kinda funny that ISU goes from the 3rd biggest stadium in the Big 12 to basically tied for 8th (with Illinois) in the Big 10.

Probably part of the problem. Stadium sizes in the big 12 are tiny compared to sec and big 10. Before covid Tennessee's attendance was "down" at like 88,000.

Well if we win the Big 12 and the college playoffs this year we won’t have to worry about any of this nonsense.

I sincerely hope you are right. If there is financial benefit to adding KU and Iowa State you'd think the Big Ten would jump at the opportunity before the Pac 12 does. That just takes us back to the elephant in the room however - Does adding Iowa State (and KU) provide a financial benefit to the BIG? I'm not sure of that answer I am sure that is being discussed as we speak.

Big 10, right or wrong, could decide it's in a good competitive position and doesn't want anymore teams. But they could come under pressure to accept some teams. BIG would hold existing team payouts harmless at worst, and force any new school (ISU, KU) to take anything that's left that is less than other schools in BIG. In this scenario, hopefully, revenues would ramp up in succeeding years.
