What's everyone reading?

Ya I read The Brothers like 20 years ago and I'm still working on that mind **** lol.
Have you read War and Peace? That thing is a tome. Very, very good, but long and names (with all Russian works, at least for me) make it challenging. First book I ever read that was over 1,000 pages.

Speaking of 1,000+ page books, The Executioner’s Song by Norman Mailer is pretty damn good.

Nope. I love the Russian names and culture though. There's an author named Katherine Arden who studied in Russia and writes cool fairly tales that are culturally accurate to pagan Russian themes. They're great.

I'm reading Crime and Punishment and only on the second chapter but I just love how Dostoevsky writes. Reading to me is like locking into someone else's 'code' or perception of reality. He and I are kind of similar and I'm not sure that's a good thing lol.

I've been reading ASOIAF again since i read it back when i was at Iowa State. It made me remember how much better the books series is compared to the GOT show.

I think the first three are as good as fantasy gets. 4 and 5 are IMO awful.

Just finished ‘A Painted House’ a different kind of John Grisham book. As usual with Grisham, the setting is the Deep South. The story told from the perspective of a 7-year old boy who witnesses things and carries a lot of secrets. Published in 2000 I think. Recommend.

I just started book 2 of the Monsters of Verity series. It's decent. Interesting setting

As I read other fantasy, I agree with this more and more. Give GRRM tons of credit for world building, but his execution fell off significantly.

I know I sound like a broken record hyping Joe Abercrombie, but the 9 books + Sharp Ends in the First Law universe are the gold standard, as far as I'm concerned. There's nothing that ASOIAF does, that Joe doesn't do better.

A couple others I've read recently:
The Gargoyle:
Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow:
Hard to describe either of them. Both are fairly melancholy but hopeful.

When I finish Hail Mary I'm going to start digging into The Stormlight Archives

I just finished the last book of the first half of the Storm light Series. 5 books, 300 or so hours. In kind of shocked how it wrapped up but it gives me time to start reading Mistborn I guess. I was going to take a break from Sanderson but I've been reading multiple books at once lately and it's helped me with my fatigue.

I might try out the Dungeon Crawler Carl series as I've heard it's a blast.

I just finished The Tin Men by Nelson DeMille and Alex DeMille. It's been a while since I just couldn't put a book down. This is one of those books.

I was talking to Gemini about books tonight and it was actually really awesome. Helped me remember the name of an author who was recommended by a friend who has since passed away. It was R Scott Bakker and it brought up Joe Abercrombie which I've seen in here as well. Had some pretty deep conversations about Dostoevsky and other great authors as well.
