They have a game lead. For god's sake.

I think the frustration is just caused by a little bit of impatience. It's okay to compare this team to teams in the past, and say hey......look what happened last year....but that really doesn't help much. All of us want these teams to get better from year to year, and advance farther, and for the program to get stronger and stronger. So, reaching the same levels that were done the year before or whatever are really not satisfying enough. We want the program to get to the point that it wins a majority of their conference (and non-conference) games on the road, and ALWAYS protects the home court.....no matter who the opponent might be.
It is only January though, only 3 conference games have been played, and if we have learned anything.....CFH's teams generally improve as the season goes along. I think this group probably has as high of a basketball IQ as any of Fred's teams have had, and I believe they will figure it out. As always, there are several new pieces that still need to gel with each other, and I have to believe they will.
I think that as a lifetime Cyclone fan like many folks on here there is a lot of emotion pinned up in every game. We are all waiting for the kick to the nuts and anything like this can set it off... Interestingly enough I have many friends in Atlanta who are Georgia, Bama, VT etc fans who feel the exact same way. I always tell them that they have no idea what the #($&$ they are talking about. This is a team that can go all the way, it hurts to see tons of missed free throws. I want it for myself, the fans and the players who did me the favor of playing for ISU.
Oh for god's sake. Again, we are 12-3. Ranked #11 in the country. This is not a type of team that needs to 'figure it out' exactly.
Also, the type of team that wins the majority of the their conference games on the road and ALWAYS protects it's home court? Is probably like 5 programs in the country. Duke has lost 2 games in a row, one at home. North Carolina lost to Iowa. Two years ago Kentucky sucked. Kansas is as close as probably any team to that standard and even they have lost games.
In the last 3 years, we have lost twice at home and one of those was stolen from us. So really, we've lost once at home.
I swear that some of you probably need to look at other teams and history before you make dumb statements like this one. It's OK to want that and hope for that. But to expect it? When it happens to only elite teams and not every year? That's silly and stupid.
We were 2-3 to start the big 12 season last year. That ended up being one of the most fun seasons of my life. No need to ever panic in basketball.
...is why a percentage of the fan base is really upset with the loss yesterday. We lost to a ranked team on the road by 1 point. Big whoop, get over it.
(Normally I wouldn't post a thread over this, but I felt inclined to share my thoughts)
Now they say "well, the effort wasn't there" and "they let a team blow them out from the start of the first half and the end of it". I don't get this, last years team had quite a few double digit comebacks, this team had two double digit comebacks IN ONE GAME. How can you question that effort? Someone kicks you, you get back up, they kick you again, and you get back up again. I applaud that.
For those who recently jumped on the bandwagon, you may not remember that Hoiberg's 2nd and 3rd teams had to mesh around this time. They did, and we went dancing. Last years team meshed from the start, which was lucky.
All I'm saying is calm down, and just enjoy the ride. Go Cyclones.
