What countries have you been to?

Slow night at work and I'm bored. What countries have you been to and what are your thoughts about them?

I have been to Mexico, Taiwan, South Korea and the Philippines.

Didn't really get to see much of Taiwan or South Korea and didn't get to experience enough of their culture to say if I liked it or not.

Mexico is decent. Everything is cheap. I went there a bunch of times and was scared to go to Juarez the first few times because of the stories I had been told. I had no bad experiences there, and loved the big fair in Juarez. The first time I went there, I called my sister to tell her I'm the first person in our family to visit another country and she said "no, mom went to Hawaii." Dunce! Authentic Mexican food is really good.

Philippines looks a lot like Mexico and everything is cheap. Cheaper than Mexico, actually. I can fill up a shopping cart with groceries and pay $40-50. Here if I get a full cart it's at least $300. Philippines has some amazing food and the friendliest people I have ever met. Their American fast food places taste better than they do here and I don't feel like crap after eating it.

On my wish list of places to visit - Tokyo, Paris, Rome, Egypt, London. That would be my top 5.

Belgium: We loved our trip there. Went to Brussels and Bruges mainly, but we also drove over to see the Westvleteren monastery and sample their beer.

Netherlands: Spent a couple of days in Amsterdam. Saw the Anne Frank house and toured the Heineken brewery.

Mexico: We’ve been to two different resorts in Riviera Maya. Also have been to the Mayan ruins of Coba and Chichen Itza.

Turks & Caicos: Went to the Beaches resort there. Very nice resort and amazing beach. A little pricey though.

Canada: I’ve only been just across the border a couple of times. Once at Niagara Falls and the other time in the boundary waters on a canoe trip.

Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, Bahamas, Scotland, Iceland England, Ireland, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Vatican City, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, India.

Ireland was my favorite country, Prague is my favorite city. Seeing the Taj Mahal was really neat.

Netherlands, Germany. Italy, Ireland, Mexico, Bahamas. Ivory Coast is next on the list and that will include a stop in France. SIL is from there, her and my brother went 2 years ago. According to her, her sister who still lives there or one of their friends will have to act like my girlfriend/wife in order to avoid being hounded by locals

Every one has something great about it and something not so great, but no more and no less than right here back at home.

China seemed the most foreign because I did not speak or comprehend the language (beyond "ni hao" "bu hao" and "xie-xie"). When I went, it was pretty polluted. I blew soot out of my nose for several days when I came back. Also brought back a horrendous cold/sore throat that lasted for weeks. Ugh.

Brazil was pretty dicey. Parts of Rio should never be visited, not even with a tour group. I'm just sayin'.

I probably disliked England the most, for a variety of reasons, but I did enjoy Bath and Penzance. I don't care that Brits speak English. That is the least of my concerns when I travel.

New Zealand was probably the most fun and the most beautiful, Kiwis are pragmatic and funny but still nice, and the English there is mostly comprehensible.(ha!) I'd go back there tomorrow, but the flights are a killer...if you fly United from Chicago or Houston, the shortest leg is about 14 hours. If I go again, I will have to mortgage the farm and fly business or hire someone to hit me with a knock-out dart before take-off. Either that or take some layovers, like in Honolulu or Fiji.

It also makes a difference if you go to a country as a tourist or as a guest. The best trips are when you go to see friends and acquaintances, or at least get to actually meet some of the natives while you're there (and not while filling out a police report).

Well, I saw Mt. Fuji flying into Japan for an airport transfer, and I saw Christ the Redeemer as the sun rose flying into Rio for an airport transfer, so I will count those two! Spiritual visits, but visits none-the-less. A matter of perspective. :)

Italy (A+++ but not the main tourist areas...gotta go north to Cinque Terre and Lake Como areas)
Greece (B...honestly really underwhelmed. Best place we went was Rhodes)
Mexico (C+...Mazatlan is meh)
Denmark (A...Copenhagen is ******* awesome)
Norway (A+++...I could live in Bergen)
Sweden (B+)
France (D...no thanks ever again)
Nebraska (F)

Mexico and Canada. Would like to visit Canada again. Wouldn’t mind seeing if I could visit the Mennonite communes in western Canada.
 
Almost all my international travel has been work related.

Netherlands a bunch
Germany several times
France
Canada
Switzerland technically (missed the exit for the French side of the Basel airport, and to go around you have to cross the border)

I would really love to do Asia and South America.

My wife and I did international trips in high school, and we made sure our kids did too. Our older two went on a 2 week trip to Belize (can't remember the group), and our third just did a 3 week trip to Japan with CIEE.
