Its a little early for a Wednesday isn't it? Also, isn't Pliny a double?I'm sick and ******* tired of Iowa breweries making clear IPA's and anointing them "West Coast". So ******* tired I had to call on some extra help last night.![]()
Elder is a double, younger is a triple I think. I found a bunch of Pliny the Elder at the Argonaut in Denver and immediately regretted buying it after opening the first one. I got started with craft by drinking west coast ipas and now it takes a really, really good one for me to even enjoy them. Its a little early for a Wednesday isn't it? Also, isn't Pliny a double?

When they first opened, Big Grove had a Pliny clone, Bliny the Welder; not sure if they have renamed it since, but I do agree, it would be nice to have some more west coast style options available from the locals. Wasn't very impressed with West Coast Eddy (it's fine, but really enjoy Easy Eddy and have felt a little down with both the West Coast and Royal versions).
Really like Easy Eddy and thought Royal Eddy was just ok. I agree with what you saidEasy Eddy is my favorite widely available Iowa IPA (it's a desert island beer, IMO), and Royal Eddy suffers from the same issue as every other hazy DIPA out there - too sweet, too heavy. At this point, that's basically all of them to my pallate.

No bitterness, sweet, has that NEIPA soft mouthfeel. Did not like.
Lua has made two really solid versions. Their Loyal Son's Barbershop collab is a Session WC and it's real good. I'm just over the haze phase and wish there were more IPA options other than fruity, hazy, juicy.Haven't tried it.
Dimmensional made a good West Coast IPA last year. Toppling Goliath made some in the way back days (OG Golden Nugget). Des Moines IPA from Confluence is honestly probably the closest thing being made here on a regular basis and I wouldn't label it as such.

And good IPAs too.Drekker is now in Iowa. If you like sours, try them out.
