We're ranked, boys. CFP #24

Although for selfish reasons, kind of nice seeing the Pac12 consistently get screwed, keeping that conference weak for a potential poaching.
On the same note, it’s really too bad Clemson didn’t go the other direction when they promoted Dabo. The ACC would be Pac12 level irrelevant with the biggest benefactor being the Big 12. A Big 12 with UT peaking alongside OU would be ripe to poach from the ACC, in status or even institutions.

6 or 8 teams would be good. 16 would be a joke, imho.

With 8 a P5 team has to run the table or be one loss to get in most but not all of the time. 2 loss P5 teams would probably need to be of the Alabama or Ohio State brand variety which is how it would be the most unfair. 8 gives a spot to a UCF or Boise State team that runs the table which I think is fair. 8 is as close to perfect as we can get though.

No #9 team has ever had a claim to be the best team in the nation. Utah's undefeated team that blew out everyone including Alabama and TCU's dominant team that was an eyelash from undefeated are examples of teams outside the top 4 but within the top 8 who had legit national championship resume claims.

I'd only support 16 if it meant an auto bid from every conference and 6 at large. 16 at large is just a **** sucking structure for the Ohio State's and Alabama's to have a permanent playoff birth. 6 at large non-conference champs would usually be very good teams still and I think it would be fun to pull for NIU or Utah State to beat a P5 team.

If the rest of the games tonight hold serve, I’m guessing we will be ranked around #20 next week. I’d say #19 at most and #22 at the least. It just depends if the committee has us jumping Iowa, Utah, Penn St, and Texas or not. We should jump T A&M at the least. This is also assuming we do not get jumped by a new entry

Resume is pretty comparable to UT. Better than Iowa’s now although head to head complicates.

Why am I not surprised this is in ESPN's power rankings?

14. Iowa State (6-3, 5-2 Big 12)
i

Week 11 result: defeated Baylor 28-14
What's next: at Texas (Saturday, 8 p.m. ET, Longhorn Network)

The more the Cyclones keep winning, the more everybody in Ames winces at the thought of losing their head coach. Matt Campbell has been that good and will no doubt be a hot commodity in the offseason. He has done an incredible job in leading Iowa State to its fifth straight win, the Cyclones' longest winning streak since the formation of the Big 12.

So are we the only fan base that winces when our team wins? Essentially they are repeating the narrative that Iowa State can't/not supposed to/won't have a successful football program. THe absurdity in the rhetoric that we are unhappy when this wins because ultimately CMC leaves is so stupid. Wait until he leaves before actually discussing this notion.

Randy, undoubtedly, will keep beating this drum in between his concerns over field storming and guns on MidAmerica turf.

Awesome to be ranked in the top 20!

With a win over Texas we'll be in the top 15.

Not to try and be sour, but unfortunately we still need to earn every ounce of respect we'll get. Texas has a very similar resume to us, but ranked higher. If we win, the narrative will be "Texas isn't as good as we thought" if Texas wins, "Wow Texas is back!"

Just win, clones

I believe this is part of what is called "to damn with faint praise" - there is no way someone that good would stay with you.

Fun to see some unfamiliar names in (or returning to after years away from) the Top 25...still some "parity" out there! Washington State, Utah State, Cincinnati, Boston College, Boise State, Syracuse...

Edit: just noticed Alabama-Birmingham in coaches poll! Wow, that "program cancellation" a few years ago was just the jump start they needed for donations, staff, recruiting in the region!

If ISU were to win the Big 12 Champ game the narrative would be about a weak conference, although it's hard to argue if a 3 loss team is winning it.

I couldn't care less though. Winning is winning and it simply hasn't happened much.

Iowa State should be 17 in the AP Poll. Voter Steve Virgen had Iowa State as #19 last week and Iowa unranked. This week he has Iowa as #18 and Iowa State unranked. Certainly that's a mistake on his part. Add the (only) 8 points Iowa got to Iowa State's total and Iowa State moves over Washington.

Ultimately its going to keep happening as long as success is there until Campbell either leaves or he says 'no' to leaving for jobs people might perceive as 'better jobs' a few years in a row.

People on the outside see our historical ineptitude and think that means there's a ceiling on the program, when in actuality we're just a sleeping giant that finally seems to be awakening. If Campbell sees this as well, i think there are really only a few jobs that aren't completely lateral moves.
