Weiskamp status?

In response to the OP, the Hawk board has a poster that says their source which is credible says he's out at least until Christmas. Whether true or not who knows, but from the time of the injury, I thought if it's not 100% why in the eff would you play him regardless if it's a big game.

Let’s say he plays and not at full strength. That would be s huge black eye for Fran and I would hope coaches would use that against him on the recruiting trail. Could be the beginning if the end for Franny.

Edit: and by coaches I’m talking MEAC, MAAC level.

I suppose if he played, and then further injured himself to the point where he missed a ton of games. Otherwise, that seems like a stretch.

I'd prefer we beat them at full strength and us at half or so. So when we win by 20 without our guys it's more fun to make fun of them.

I still think he'll tape it up and give it a go. If he doesn't Iowa might be in a world of trouble. He's their best all-around player.

It reads to me like a situation where he's not playing and they just don't want to say it in case there's a miracle recovery, but I agree, without him their offense could be pretty pitiful

They've had a good enough non con they don't need to win tonight, if it's even close I don't see how you play him and potentially risk any hope you have at competing in the big 10. That said I'm in the camp where I hope he plays and they still lose.

It's a built-in excuse for the fanbase either way. They play without him or they play with him at less than 100%. I'm fine with whatever scenario results in an ISU win

That started a LONG time before Joe's ankle twist!

Have they had a good enough Non-con though?
They won their games, good for them, but every loss Oregon, PITT and UCONN has taken since makes it look less impressive. It is very possible that ISU is their only chance of a W from a Tourney team in the Non-con.

Fran shouldn't risk playing Joe W in any circumstances if he can make his ankle worse. They need him for the rest of the year. The importance of the game for the Hawks shouldn't be understated.

Might be a question of how effective he can be, too. If he can't move laterally or get the lift he normally does on his jumper then he becomes a liability at both ends of the floor.

Honestly it's pretty similar to ISU's. It's a fine non con, it's not overly impressive but they don't need a win tonight to carry it. The difference between the two is which way they're trending.

Having seen it happen live and having numerous ankle sprains throughout my very illustrious basketball career I would be shocked if he is good to go after 3 days. I hope he plays though.

I think it's still a little too early to tell on Iowa, maybe for both teams. I think the Hawks are criminally overrated at #18 or whatever they are, but I'm not going to kill them for losing a close one to Wisconsin and getting drilled at Michigan State. They're not great but I'm not quite ready to pencil them in for the Big Ten basement or anything. Maybe I'll feel differently after the game tonight.

They've had a fine non-conference although like you pointed out they probably won't have a win over a tournament team if they lose tonight. It's a huge game for them though because if they lose that's 2 home losses in 6 days and you're looking at a potentially 0-3 start to Big Ten play with @ Purdue coming up Jan 3rd. That'd be a big hole to climb out of.
