Anyone else see the movie Weapons over the weekend?

I had some high hopes for this one. Critics loved it. Buzz was great.

I think maybe I’m just getting older and see too many movies or something. I absolutely hated this movie. I would have walked out if I wasn’t with a group of people.

It’s definitely divisive. When it ended I just laughed out loud and said ‘what the **** was that’ and a woman behind us was like ‘that was incredibly overhyped’. But then I was the only one I’d my group that didn’t like it.

Curious what others thought. Maybe I was just having a bad day.

EDIT: Horror movies revolving around kids i generally don’t think are scary so that should be noted.

Okay, so, I just went and read the Wikipedia article about the plot (which I generally do when I'm pretty sure I don't want to finish a film).

Oy.

I'm really curious as to what your motivation was to go see it in the first place. Maybe you did not know what the plot was?

Saw it today. Trailers and reviews were great, and I thought the first 30-45 minutes were pretty intense. Fell off a bit in the middle, and like a lot of movies with a very interesting premise, they definitely didn’t stick the landing. Not sure what would’ve been a satisfying conclusion, but it wasn’t that.

But overall I thought it was fine. Just had higher hopes for it.

I didn't hate it, but I'm not quite sure what generated that kind of buzz.

Money.

Remember from history the paid mourners - people were hired to walk in a funeral procession to make the dead look as if they were important and popular.

That concept is now applied to movies that don't go directly to streaming.

I just watched this. I guess it is kind of a horror movie, more like a mystery.
It was interesting. I didn't hate it.
And yes it seems that people are paid to give glowing reviews to movies. How many Marvel movies come out now that the critics say "Is the best Marvel movie to date"

I thought it was solid. Had some chills which I don’t get too often as this movie type is my favorite genre

Just watched this the other night. I thought it was pretty good! I actually liked it better than Sinners

Total coincidence, I watched those two movies on back-to-back nights. I'd never heard of Weapons. I didn't really care for it at all and was frankly shocked to see it got generally good reviews online. I figured maybe my opinion of it had been negatively biased by having watched Sinners first, which - while not entirely my cup of tea - I thought was better by leaps and bounds.
