We never learn

Doesn't matter. They defended it. It raises more of a legit question about what exactly ISU's coaches were planning all week.

All week?...you think all these coaches did all summer was prepare for South Dakota State? That offense we saw was, with the exception of a few booster dinners and recruiting trips, what this staff and squad was working on 12 hours plus a day for 8 months.
Sometimes I wonder if Bellicek and Sabin are really that smart....or if they are just average intelligence and.....

Thanks Dr Phil. But struggling to reach 6-5 and a crap bowl is not what most envisioned .
Your right on spanky my boy.....Yeah most fans I talked to were thinking of the championship game like it was a given after last year......but now my friend we know thats not possible after one cancellation and one loss.....

Best part of this is that I still like Campbell as a head coach. A wreck of a season this year, if he has any worth, the next couple years should be good. Plus, let’s not forget, Iowa pulled out all the stops tonight. Every other team that saw this game, should be able to beat them.

I dislike the Hawks as much as the next fan here but I hate to say if you look at Ferentz track record at Iowa his teams get better as the season goes on and that defense already looks pretty good. Iowa is not going to see the high scoring offenses in the Big 10 that ISU will see in the Big 12 most weeks. The difference is a mediocre offense with a good defense will win you games in the Big 10 while you need to be able to score in the 30's on a consistent basis to keep up with the offenses in the Big 12. We probably will have one of the best defenses in a conference that isn't plush with great defenses but we still will have to find an identity on offense to make that defense work to our advantage.

Most of the fans I know never went there. Expected a good season and a win over the TOE, but a championship game? No.

It's not but I will take a crappy bowl game over no bowl game if it means this program takes a big step forward next season. As I posted in another thread tonight if you look at the 2 deep we don't lose a lot from this group after this season either through graduation or possibly leaving early for the NFL and there is a lot of underclassmen that made a name for themselves today and guys behind the juniors on this team that will be pushing for playing time. What Campbell and this staff has already done in a short time and with the talent that is being infused into the program is unprecedented. The 2019 class is currently ranked 31 by 247 sports and includes guys with some nice offer lists. Consider the history of the program and to have big expectations in year 3 of a coach means we are on the right track.

A big step forward for ISU football would be winning 6 games plus for three years in a row.

I’m 44 years old. First game was at Clyde Williams stadium. I refuse to get excited anymore season any more.

Why? If you believed that then you are an idiot.

Iowa’s defense was always going to be good. Our offense hasn’t been good in decades.

We were never going to blow out Iowa.
Shhhhh don’t let 1976 know that

(The poster not the year lol)

A wreck is a season? Good Lord we've played 1 game. Are you one of those fans that cares only about beating Iowa?

I agree but the the last coach that did that got fired over a 4-8 season. Don't get me wrong I doubt McCarney would have taken the team to a bowl game the next year because Chizik went 5-19 the next 2 years with his recruits but that just shows you how small the margin of error is with recruiting at ISU. That's why I think this staff is on the right track because we are seeing unprecedented depth across the board with this current roster. They lack experience but not losing a bulk of the roster every other year is going to pay off long term. With this new rule that freshman can appear in 4 games and still redshirt is huge too. A guy like Downing you can stash and use him at the end of the season when the OL is banged up and get 5 years out of him.

No, I’m not one of those fans. This was one of the more winnable games on the schedule though and to only score 3 points doesn’t bode well looking at the rest of our games.

Well, do people think ISU has the overall talent to be a ranked team? They were ranked last year with a lot of the same partd. If so, that means they can beat ranked teams and ranked teams aren't scary.

Iowa isn't Illinois or someone...they're decent.

I thought 6 wins was still good for this year as it's only year 3. Get something figured out and get a couple of these next few and have a good shot at wins in the 2nd half of the season.

If ISU only wins 3 games or something that would be pretty bad...I just don't see it happening though.

You were born in Clyde Williams Stadium? (or at least your mother was pregnant with you while in Clyde Williams Stadium in 1974)
