We need answers!!!!

I was at the game today watching our guys up close. I'm not questioning their effort today. Their discipline? It probably could have been better, but it's not the reason we lost. The reason we lost is simple. KU has the best players in the nation - it's that simple. Sometimes you just have to acknowlege how good your opponent is, even though it's very hard to do.
It would be different if all the losses looked like the Texas game. ISU got embarrassed today, downright embarrassed. They lost as a team, not a single player had a good game. McDermott is not the guy, and after today I fully believe that.
personally i got really frustrated when were down 15 with 10 minutes left and instead of trying to get back into the game, the clones take 25-30 second possessions of just standing around with the ball, i realized that we probably werent going to win this game, but some effort to at least try to pull back into the game. It didnt even seem like anyone cared about this game
We had more to's than fg's in the first half...and that's not including awful shots as to's...
I will agree though that KU is just the better team.
My fellow cyclone fanatics I must call like I've seen for the past 4 years. Our team has not gotten any better at one single thing fundamentally under this coaching staff. We continue to be extremely undisciplined on both ends of the court and I mean execution is atrocious, especially in key situations. We continue to be one of the poorest rebounding teams I've ever seen don the cyclone uniform. I don't want to have to call out Gmac, but he's where the ball stops. The only difference between year 4 and year 1 is the upgrade in athleticism and that is absolutely the only difference. He put together his staff. He signed off on all of our recruits. Its his job to put them in the best position to be successful. By all accounts Greg's a stand-up individual. I'm not attacking him personally, however as the past 4 years have unfolded we have not progressed. Craig has taken a major step back and I love DG but he really hasn't progressed like he's capable of. Marquis is our best player at both ends of the court and he is about the only reliable rebounder. SC is a role player and Dendy has some skills but they need some development, which I don't know if he'll receive. Ham is simply not a big 12 starter. I'm sorry, but he's a role player. Though this may have been long it needed to be said. I thank you and I truly believe there ain't nothin' greater than bein' an Iowa Stater!!!
The state of the Men's basketball program over the last decade is beginning to move from disappointment to shameful. Iowa State was a proud basketball school under Johnny, Tim, Larry and Wayne, with glimpses of competing at the highest levels. It wasn't greedy under these coaches to expect an NCAA birth every year. They had the talent and the understanding how to win games. Their collective tenures weren't perfect, but as a whole, any off the court matters were easier to take because at the end of the day, they won more than they lost. They ran a program we could enjoy and be proud of.
Since we let Wayne go, and added Coach Mac, on the surface I think we all had optimism for the direction of the program. Perhaps thinking that Mac could instill some discipline into these talented players and get more out of them. For whatever reason it hasn't worked. When players consistently leave the program for one reason or another it's a sign that there is trouble at the top. Either Coach Mac isn't a good teacher, or he lacks judgement during the recruiting process. He hasn't rallied the troops effectively and there is evidence on the court that he has little control.
Any good defensive effort today was more often squandered by a lack of control in the offense. These guys seem confused, are they playing school yard ball, or Division 1? The immaturity in their game is so frustrating to watch.
By the way...it doesn't take 5 years to turn a program around. One recruiting class can turn things around very quickly IF you have someone in charge that knows how to choose the right guys and teach them effectively.
Another sign that Coach Mac has lost it was the Paul Rhoads stunt after the Nebraska game. He is clearly reaching for something, and I honestly think he doesn't know what else to do. He is the captain of a sinking ship. Please don't misunderstand me. I love Iowa State and want the best for our program. I like Coach Mac, I just don't think it's going to work out.
Pollard has got to realize that enough is enough and stop resetting the clock on the McDermott era once a player leaves. Look more into why these players are leaving...it's not working.

Well thank you for letting the rest of us know that McDermott is not the guy. Guess we should just fire him right now and start all over once again, huh? Then if things don't look better three years from now, you can demand that we fire that guy too and start all over again.
If Mac hadn't already taken a university with much less resources than ours to the dance, then I'd be more inclined to think it's time to make a change. But Mac has done it before - more than once - and he's done it the right way with true "student" athletes.
But many folks like you have so little patience. So they'd rather dump the guy now and start all over again because they believe in the remote chance that we'll find a coach who will magically take us to the promise land. And those same folks will call for that coaches scalp when he doesn't produce after three years.
Mac's tenure so far has been disappointing - there's no arguing that. I'm just one of those folks who'd rather hang with him for another year or two because I've seen him produce before.
In all respects to the last 3teams at ISU under Coach Mac...while they were less talented, at least they always played hard...this team does not.
You missed one very very key point in this. That coach has to be able to recruit that talent.
You got me...I missed a key point in mine. You gotta keep that talent around. You also need more than 1 per year coming in.
I didn't miss it, re-read my post, I said they had to choose the right guys. Perhaps I should have said recruit.
This is terrible basketball Mcdermott has got to go. Not ONE of our guards would play anywhere else in the big 12 conference, they cant even get the ball up the court or even get an offensive set going. **** poor basketball and we need a change in coaching. Next year it gets even WORSE! Even if we had Luca today, he wouldnt have been able to get a shot off against Kansas defense. Terrible basketball.
