WBB Recruiting continued...

Latest recruiting hint:

Texas?

He rented a car this morning (per another tweet) so he probably flew somewhere.

Same place Obama (though, there are times Air Force One practices without him)

Cyclone Hoops Flight is delayed into DSM as they await the arrival of Air Force One--hope they are running to far behind!

Albuquerque?

2012 Taylor Shull 5'9" guard Mt. Pleasant,IA has an Iowa State offer

I watched Taylor in the Game Time league this past summer. She is a very good player. Seemed to be getiing along well with the Hawk players although her team was mostly UNI players.

UNI will be much better this year. Kalin, Madrigal, Cain and their inside ladies will be players for them.

Madison Baier, 6-4 Post from Tama is someone we need to take a look at. She was impressive when she played but needs to get into better shape.

However, this is certainly a u-turn from the popular belief on this board a short time ago, that Iowa had no chance with Stokes. If they get her, to go along with V. Johnson and Logic already, they will be a Final Four contender.

True: but that was based on her father's public comments that he wanted her to go out of state. I think its going to be Maryland, TN, or UConn.

Markisha Wright to Notre Dame: Girls' basketball: East's Wright commits to Notre Dame | desmoinesregister.com | The Des Moines Register

I don't believe we ever offered her. My guess is that we would have offered her if Cady chose to go elsewhere.

Wow. I don't know for sure if ISU offered Wright, but if ND did, I assume we would have too. Muffet McGraw doesn't recruit average players. I would bet that BF did.
I have officiated AAU games involving both Wright and Cady; they are two totally different players. Wright is a true post player, loves contact, and one tough lady. Cady is a perimeter player/shooter with a finesse game. She would never play down low.
If it's possible to be more concerned about our recruiting, I guess I am. I am a big Markisha Wright fan. There is no one on our team with her toughness, with the exception of Poppens, and Wright is much quicker and jumps higher.
I hope the lack of a "true post position" in our system isn't hurting us in recruiting.

I agree with you regarding recruiting, it has been puzzling this summer/fall. BF was an assistant for McGraw, you'd think if McGraw offered Wright, BF would have, too.

I do disagree with your suggestion that BF's system lacks a "true post position" and is possibly affecting recruiting. Angie Welle and Anna Prins were/are true post players although they both have the ability to pop a trey once in awhile. Both of them I believe were BF's highest ranked recruits.

Prins and Welle were may have been our highest-ranked recruits to sign out of HS, but transfers Nina Smith, Anne O'Neil, and Katie Robinette were all ranked higher, I think.

Helped officiate the Midwest Fall Finale this past weekend in Ames, hosted by All Iowa Attack. Fennelly was there, among tons of other coaches. Greenfield, Wright, Gaines, Butts all played. Lots of talent for 2012 and beyond.

Ironically, BF addressed how this is used against us in recruiting; and I loved how he addressed how ISU posts are often the leading scorers on the team and in ISU career points. Traditional post play is a thing of the past anyway.

Honestly, I was interested in us getting Wright, but with have 4 young quality posts, much more depth and talent at that position that I ever really recall, and Cady is still in the works, so who knows.

hmmm.... re: Kiah Stokes, maybe Maryland isn't on her list anymore? or just an off-handed comment by a journalist?

No. 70 Brene Moseley to stay in the DMV
Brene Moseley, the No. 70 ranked player in the 2011 class, told ESPN HoopGurlz she has verbally committed to Maryland. The 5-foot-7 combo guard is a senior at Paint Branch High School, where she teams with the top post in the senior class, Elizabeth Williams.

"(Maryland) stuck beside me through everything," Moseley said, "even my injury and it feels good to stay close to home where my family and friends can support me."

Moseley is the first commit to head coach Brenda Frese's program in the 2011 class. The team has no seniors on its 14-person roster this season so Moseley is likely to be the only addition from this recruiting class.

14 + 1 = 15. That's the scholarship limit, so assuming no walk-ons there's no scholarship available for Stokes.

The only unsigned non-international 2011 player associated with ISU is Arielle Roberson. She is reportedly down to Colorado and NC State and planned to sign in the early period, but it appears she decided not to sign in the early period after all.
