WBB: General All-NCAA Thread - Not Team Cyclones Stuff

Couple of good MLK Day matinees today if you have the day off. Below zero here so hunkered down and hibernating and will tune this in. Hope they are good games. Neutral court in NJ so will be almost like a NCAA preview.

I've already accepted that we're increasingly likely to miss the tourney so I might as well enjoy Iowa missing it too. UNI is a far more damaging loss anyway.
This is where I'm at. I hope ISU gets hot and somehow makes the tournament. But it's not looking good. If I can't enjoy watching ISU win, I'll enjoy watching iowa lose.

Baylor looked like they might be another 40 point victim of a #1 team after falling down 17-2 in the first five minutes but they got back into the game. Rough game, in another ref review right now. UCLA 39-31 in the 3rd. Bruins Betts is giving Bears fits with rebs and blocks, has scored 11 pts.

Every time Baylor got the game to 5 points UCLA responded and final was 72-57 Final 15 point margin was the same margin that UCLA took in the first five minutes, the next 35 minutes were dead even. Betts with 24 pts and missed a triple double by one rebound and one block. Crazy number of blocks. She was way the difference in the game.

Baylor, if they play like this, will be a handful for us unless they get in foul trouble.

Man, this review stuff.

Texas player just got sandwiched between two Maryland players. Sellers for Maryland goes down after she just sort of fall over after sandwiching the Texas player like she was the ham in a sandwich. Play is stopped with Texas now in their offense on the other end of the court. Sellers lays on the ground like she had been stabbed. Review. Nothing. And of course Sellers is just fine all of a sudden. I mean they got it right but there was really nothing to review less the acting.

All the teams do. Any incidental contact is played up hoping for ref intervention.
To many times a touch sends a player falling to the floor as if they were ran over by a truck.

Last year I noticed far more reviewing than I had ever seen. It has escalated even more this year. The refs are under more and more pressure to "get it right". Coaches have plenty of assistants now who often have little to do so they are flooding the office with taped reviews every time there are numerous egregious mistakes made in games. Which is at least every 3 games. The cameras don't lie and their mistakes are easily identified.

In the UCLA game today there was one review that took almost 7 minutes. After reviewing over and over they went out on the court for a 2 minutes discussion, simply to announce that no violations were committed and game was continued. So unless this is brought under control you can count on seeing more and more of the refs and less and less of the players.

And..las we witnessed in the Tech game…they can screw up reviews badly

Watching this game in the background. Only 4 points for Houston in the second quarter, boy are they bad.

Minor complaint that watching this game reminded me of: teams constantly yelling "D-UP! D-UP!" for like the whole game.

OSU must be really embarrassed they lost to Houston, they are just horrible.
