***WBB: 2026 Recruiting Thread***

Sophia Gregory: 6' 2" F Youngstown St. transfer with 2 seasons remaining, from West Branch, Ohio. Was All-Area First team in H.S.. Gregory also was a first-team All-Ohioan in soccer and a four-year state track qualifier to close out her high school career.

Gregory averaged 10.5 points per game this season and led the team in rebounds at 8.7 and steals at 1.7 per game.

Sophia grabbed her 500th career rebound in March. Ranked second in the Horizon League for rebounds per game and fifth for blocks per game, while leading all conference freshmen in multiple categories including points, rebounds, and double-doubles Weak 3-p shooter. Recorded 28 points against Point Park, one of the highest scoring games by a YSU freshman since the program joined Division I. Achieved three consecutive double-doubles from February 15-22 and recorded four double-doubles in her final six games

The sophomore was named the Horizon League Defensive player of the year along with second team all Horizon league this season. She was also the leagues freshman of the year last season.

Good fit for Iowa State if we overlook her outside shooting, but good mid-range and around rim. Rebounding and scoring make her an attractive find with good ball handling (played guard in H.S.). No surprise if she lands in Ames.

I like this type of player. Everything doesn’t have to be a three…

I mentioned this a few weeks back but will reiterate it trying to be as nice as I can. This team next year will be made up of a bunch of mid major players, kinda how BYU looked like this past year. Any athletic team that we play we will lose by 20+. It just doesn’t look good.

Updated with Lauren Hurst verbal to VT

I deleted her transfer recruiting bio where I noted we were unlikely her choice. Also in there, I noted for some reason we seem unlikely to secure, or retain, players from the SE.

Totally agree. We’re going to get players who are going to have to pinch themselves that they’re at a P5 basketball school.

When is it time CBF?

It’s just unfortunate. Plus, now we will get to watch Bill for another year get pissed at these players and pull them out after 10 seconds of being in the game for doing something he didn’t like. Red faced and all. I will be so upset if he takes everything out on Comito. He’s done that **** before.

You know I think his attitude at this stage is just finish this out. I got to believe Bill will relent as minimal is expected out of this team regardless how much he wants to finish strong. Coast, recede into the future, leave with grace, is all I ask. I would thank him for doing that.

you'd think so ... he can't even field a team at this point. not sure what the hold up is other than transfers being gunshy of the situation. honestly kinda surprised we held on to Comito through this disaster.

Perhaps the school is a bigger draw than the coach.

The thing is, I expect the best effort from the 2026-27 team possible. Not just enough to finish the season. Our coach should, too.

It will settle out. There’s no good in spiraling into despair. We’ll see a team next season — and, in time, a new coach. CBF is as much a victim of NIL, the shifting landscape of women’s basketball, and plain bad luck as he is of his own decisions. I was frustrated with him too, but I backed off once I saw the stampede of “portalese” storming the gates. Now we join the long list of programs being torn apart while throwing offers at any warm body available.

He loves Iowa State, and you can see how crushed he is watching a highly ranked team — one that would’ve been regarded highly again next year — evaporate. He looks older, frustrated, and tormented by how quickly it all unraveled. I’m choosing to give him some space and simply be entertained as this Rube Goldberg roster gets assembled.

Yep, Bill’s the victim here. Feel bad for the guy at 900k annually. Has he ever acknowledged any responsibility for the train wreck?

Yowza…Gloom despair and agony persists. Personally I see the positives of starting fresh. No high expectations so success is even more enjoyable. No having to read people’s ******** about Audi’s lack of defense or whatever else filled the angst posts this season. Instead we will have a group of young women excited to be at Iowa State and very well might gel enough to surprise folks. Quite frankly I’m looking forward to it.

It is concerning that we have no transfers other than Mya. Has the mass exodus warned these women off? When solid ISU player bolts then something is wrong. Stop blaming NIL - that is an easy excuse. Has JP held the purse strings too tight as he did to Cael and the wrestling team? Is CBF mercurial fury too much? More than money drives these women away. Possible the lack of coaching acumen and improvement has finally been exposed? I will watch closely as Lexie and Kenzi were my faves - run off like 2nd hand castoffs is not sitting well!

The bulk of the signing will come end of April and early May so it's a bit early to be expecting much. Still, I think this is going to be an upward battle and I am not optimistic at all.

Portal closes on the 20th for entering. Some coaches will maybe hold off chasing portals until the players they want to keep can't portal out after being recruited over.

We have a bottom 5 Big 12 budget and players are asking for the moon right now. The ones who are signing have realistic expectations or are top tier talent. You have to have patience.
