Got told today that I need to replace my water softener (was a Kinetico system installed in 1989). Any advice for what to go with or especially good experiences with a specific system?

Go with an on demand system and don't use Culligan. The on demand systems use so much less salt and waste a lot less water.

My parents use Rain soft. Works great. I can't even drink tap water growing up with a RO and soft water.

Also, I already have a reverse osmosis system and on city water if that does anything to help. Just the softener needs replaced.

I don't know anything about Kinetico other than it is very expensive, but if a system from 1989 is still working and they build simular quality today (not china junk with their name) I'd consider that again. I've rarely gotten more than about 5 years from a water softener.

Yikes. Rainsoft has lasted my parents as long as OP's unit.
