My brother in law is a hawk fan. He says he cheers for ISU when they aren’t playing the hawks.

That’s my biggest pet peeve. Cheering for both teams. If you cheer for both teams, get out of here. We don’t need you.

I'm in Denver. Still a lot of Hawkeye fans here, and plenty of ISU as well. I went to an Iowa bar with Iowa friends a few years ago. I decided that day I'll be watching from home going forward. Most of them are drunk, arrogant, and aggressive. They can't take any **** talking if you bring it back at them.

And not breaking news here, but it's the non-grads/casual fans who are the biggest jerks. I'll watch with a few Iowa friends who are diehard and more about their team than putting down ISU and Ames at every turn.

In WI I get asked often or it's assumed I cheer for Iowa outside of Cyhawk and I have to laugh and explain why.

Yeah, I'll get the "I cheer for both" from Iowa fans who think it's a compliment or something. Especially if you're from central Iowa, that is a flat out lie. I cheer against Iowa every game, but that doesn't mean I'm an ******* about it. It's possible.

Not always but this personality aligns with the small town folks who see the local high school team as the big show no matter how many years it's been since they graduated.

Also tends to think their Class A All District player is a shoe in to play B1G football.

That's not a knock on small town football; imo its general premise is pretty great when left as just that.

Maybe just my attitude has changed but I don't think it's the bitter rivalry it was during the Fry years. I still cheer for whoever is playing the Hawks but it's nobody's Superbowl.

It wasn't a rivalry during the Fry years lol. We never won.

The 5-year McCarney streak, internet/social media, ISU enrollment/DSM metro growth, and ISU's recent success (outside of the game) have made it a more intense rivalry.

Iowa fans do not respond well when they see their own behavior in different colors.

My friends are respectful to each other, but we're not cheering for each other's team.

I see what you're saying about the game itself, but the day-to-day rivalry has never been more pronounced.

After last year it was 'Great atmosphere, hard played game, even teams, Iowa just got the breaks' from the Hok trolls and I can guarantee the cliches from the 5 year streak 20+ years ago will be on full display if ISU wins today.

Sounds like you hang out with morons

I am probably easily triggered. Could be a me problem. All those years in the late 80s and early 90s at jack trice made me pretty callus. So many hawks trying to pick fights. So many douchebags. I feel like it's part of their blood. The spirit of Fry, Zabel, and Touchdown Timmy run deep. Even if they try to hide it, it's there.

I hate this. I have a friend that claims to cheer for both. That's ********. Also she always insists on saying **** like "I'm always worried when we play Iowa State". What about the last 6 years would make an Iowa fan nervous?

I will say that there is a guy that has sat near us for probably 10 years in Jack Trice. I've never been to a home game that he hasn't attended----and I miss very few. He's always there cheering for Iowa State. Except every other year when he puts on his Iowa hat and cheers for Iowa. He's such a mystery to me. Why does he never go to Iowa home games?

Growing up in the eastern part of the state during the 80's and 90's was not an easy time to be a Cyclone fan. So I'm with you. I am friends with plenty of Hawk fans, but I don't pretend to be pleasant about the Hawks. I cheer against them all the time. I don't care about the friendly banter.

I grew up in Ames in the 80s and 90s and it wasn't much better. All year long those ******* fans would just ****-talk with no more provocation than seeing a kid wearing ISU gear.

**** them Hawks.

Had a hawk fan, friends coworker, show up at our watch party for the game last year. We gave him so much **** he ended up leaving at halftime.
