#15 Virginia Tech comes to town on Friday for a dual. Here are my thoughts.

First off, the Virginia Tech AD's website for wrestling is so much better than ours. Looking up records, results, etc. was super easy and everything I wanted was there. I wish Cyclones.com would put up half of this stuff, or at least update more than once a year. If you click on "Statistics" on Cyclones.com you still get the notes for our 2/13/11 meet against Missouri. I have to get all of our stats from the NWCA site, which isn't always completely accurate.

The key matches for this meet are 141 and 165. At 165 Sorenson is once again facing another quality wrestler. It seems like almost every meet he is facing a guy who has a legit chance to AA in March. At 141 Goettl gets a chance to avenge a close loss from Midlands and show us how much he has improved since the start of the season. If Goettl wins this one he should be ranked in the top 15 next time rankings come out. If England gets a good win I'd expect to see him ranked next time as well (Spangler is currently #7 at 174). I consider both 141 and 149 to be tossups and wouldn't be surprised if we won either of them. I'm also not confident about Shafer so a loss by him wouldn't be shocking at all.

I think we win this one, but it will be close and one bad match could cost us the meet.

Very good predictions, I see a ton of possible predictions. I think Hallman and swalla are key matches also. They need to hold to nothing worse than a decision loss to really help the team. Sometimes the match is won by the kid who lost but only gave up 3 points and not 6.
 
Good write up with all the comparisons. Cash will be wrestle in place of Hallman.

I hope For Bonus from Finch.
This dual is also important because Virginia Tech is in our region for National Duals. We need the higher seed! Same as the UNI Dual will be important.
 
OSKALOOSA, Iowa – Redshirt sophomore Ben Cash dominated the competition at the William Penn Open on Saturday. Cash won by major decision in all four matches of the tournament en route to a first-place finish.
In the 133-pound bracket, Cash started off with a 12-2 major decision over Javier Carbajal of Waubonsee CC. Cash then went on to post a 12-4 major decision over Logan Welch of Missouri Valley. In the semis, Cash defeated Ellsworth CC’s James Kent by 15-5. Even in the finals Cash continued his commanding run with a 13-5 win over Maryville’s Brandon Oshiro for the crown.
Cash’s performance at William Penn secured him a spot in the Friday’s lineup when the Cyclones play host to Virginia Tech at 7 p.m. (CST) in Hilton Coliseum.
 
Updated the OP to include Cash. I am surprised by this. Hallmann was doing as well as we could hope for and Cash's 4-0 record from Saturday was against 4 guys with losing records at D-III schools and Community Colleges. I could see that earning him a wrestle-off, but not enough to walk in to the starting lineup. Maybe Jackson thinks he is less likely to get pinned.

Vetterein got majored by Reader last year at 174, so he jumped 2 big weights. Maybe he is in a similiar position as Shafer and should be a 184 pounder.
 
Free admission to the meet for all students. The meet will also be on CloneZone and on IPTV. Starts at 7 PM on Friday.
 
That's great, hopefully they show up. You should post a thread with that title so students that don't open wrestling threads will see it and maybe come.
 
The students would get an e-mail from the AD about that I'm guessing.

Updating on IPTV, they are showing it on tape delay at 8:30. But Clone Zone will be live.
 
I have to miss this one for a high school BB game. Hope they perform to their potential
 
Does IPTV stream video? I live in Colorado, but it would be great if I could get an online stream of this. I can't find anything on their website that indicates so.
 
Most of you probably already know this but VT head coach Kevin Dresser wrestled at Iowa and is originally from Humboldt, IA. He lived just down the street from me and I remember going to his basement to wrestle with all the other neighborhood kids. They had a partial wrestling mat down in the basement so it was pretty cool as a kid to wrestle on an "official wrestling mat". I didn't last long in wrestling. I decided pretty quickly that I was better suited for basketball!
 
Yes, I remember Kevin well
I got 2nd to him at Conference, Sectional, and Districts. I just forgot to get 2nd to him at State. I was a Senior, he was a Junior
