Vette vs. Nweke

Vette looks like a strong and physical post player. We need somebody that works hard down low and bangs with the other bigs. Even if Vette is not an all-conference player, my guess is that he will contribute more than Marsden. These past few years have made me appreciate how good we had it when guys like Homan and Vroman were around.

I haven't seen Nweke play, but Vette might give us a better combination of size and mobility. Although not as big as Nweke, Vette should still be able to set some pretty good screens if he is 6'9" and 245. And I do like the following passage from the article on Vette in the Ames Tribune:

"Clayton has a rich basketball background and knows how to win," McDermott said in a statement. "He will give our frontcourt toughness, versatility and a high basketball I.Q."

You know, I remember hearing the word "toughness" when he talked about Charles Boozer. I think that's a quality McDermott is looking for: the ability to continue to play hard when things aren't going right...
