He has signed with Indiana St. but their coach is fired so he has an option to leave. I know from a very reliable source that McDermott is trying to free up a scholarship and if someone transfers he is going to offer Vette.

Clayton was 1st team all state for two yrs.
co captain of class 3-A tourney team
named MVP of the entire state tourney

in a nutshell, if you haven't seen him play or know him he:

plays with his head, takes a lot of charges, rebounds like a machine, can bring the ball up the court, hit three's, dunk's the crap out of the ball, moves extremely well, has terrific hands, is a team player, mentally tough, very nice kid off the court.

Question is: is he Big 12 material or a bench heater/practice squad MVP for 4 years? I'm not trying to be a smart @$$, just curious about the kid and whether he can contribute in getting ISU to the next level. I don't see Iowa b-ball highlights much here in CO.

Very impressive player. He looked like he could have started for us this year.

After watching all these teams in the tournament with some beef, including mid-major schools...might as well take a look at him! We've got a bunch of twigs out there.

Is he free to be recruited again since his coach left?

Yes and no, Vette would have to request a leave of his scholly and Indiana State would have to grant it. It would be similiar to what happen to Taggart, Carr, and the rest of our young players when Morgan was fired.

Had not heard that the ISU coach was fired. That means the Jordan Printy would be free as well but since we apparantly did not want him before, we probably don't want him now.

This is not a knock on Clayton's abilities, but with all of the coaching changes that are taking place, I would have to believe there are some other priorities than this kid. For example, Stevie Wonder bolts eiu, Altman is hired there, and all of a sudden Kenton Walker (who was a priority earlier; 6-9, 215) is back on the market, as is P'Allen Stinnett. Not to mention the possibility of Baes Hamga (Iowa committ) being an '07 recruit, who is Lucca Staiger's roommate at Prep School.

You might want to temper the "GMac will make room for him" and "he is a priority" talk. I am sure he is a friend of yours or your family. I do not want to rain on your parade, and I am sure he is a hell of a nice kid, just think we could find better.

Having said all of that, nobody is leaving this team, so lets calm that talk as well.

This assumes that someone leaves the team.

I'll be surprised if that happens. The two possible candidates are McIntosh or Cory Johnson (unless Taylor has grade problems, and we won't know that until June). McIntosh only has one year of eligibility left, and certainly won't get any high major offers. His option would be to transfer to Div 2 or Div 3, where he won't lose a year, and would start for one year.

Cory could conceivably go home to Minnesota, they've got one scholarship available, and he'd be an immediate starter for the Gophers, who have no front line players of his caliber, and lose Tollackson after 2008.

I really doubt either of these scenarios happens, though. McIntosh's best career move is to stay and become a useful roll player (his only real option at the high major level) and Cory Johnson seems to really love Iowa State, and is willing to be a do-what-it-takes roll player.

jordon printy from linn-mar is in the same boat, i know hes a gaurd and we pry dont need one but mcdermott was at the finals watching him lead his lions to a title

Wayne Morgan worked out Vette during the summer before his Jr. year, he liked him but never offered. Then he grew about 2 more inches.

Then Indiana St, Drake, and Bradley all offered before his senior season. and after a visit to ISU, he committed a few weeks after, then Printy committed because he wanted to play with Vette.

Can Vette play with the big boys you might ask?

He held his own very well in several National AAU tourneys while playing with Martin Bros.

He is not a soft big man by any means and completly dominated all opponents this year. Problem is our team avg win was by about 20 all year and a lot of times he sat out a lot of the 2nd half. Also he's been hampered by an extremely sore hammy the whole year.

His intangables are what make him so special, he's got a huge bball IQ.

No offense to him, but id rather have a freed up scholly go to AT, then we can land someone that is more of a high major recruit. I know we need our fair share or role players, but we could do better IMO.
