When I was a kid we would go out mid week see the different clubs giving demonstrations and that. The parade on Saturday was always fun to see the floats. In High school it was all about Ash bash and buckets of beer but we didn't effin riot!

It would seem that the Iowa legislature would have more important things to worry about.
I believe it was fun. I remember buying beer on Wednesday and then waking up Monday morning to go to class.Yeah. Myis definitely only at half-mast.
I'm one to talk -- I went to one party briefly my entire time in Ames and never drank (then and now).
I used to be the exception, though. Now somebody like me is more the rule.
I have a harder time imagining modern college students being into the drunken hooliganism that got VEISHEA cancelled in the first place compared to previous generations.
You now have me in pain. There’s someone driving around WDSM with a VEISHA license plate. Made me laugh seeing it a few weeks back and brought back a lot of memories.
Had a buddy get a Prince Albert during Veishea one year as part of a Veishea checklist/game we were playing.
I think you are right. The Drinking age changed around 1985/1986. I was one grandfathered in at 19. The whole dynamic on campus changed with the drinking age and more parties were forced off campus.Would love to see VEISHEA brought back, but maybe the times have changed too much.
I was a student for 1983-1986 weeks and it was a memorable and fun event because there was a balance of campus activities (competitions/parade) and parties. But even at that time it was teetering to lose control with increased emphasize on "house" parties. I put a lot of that blame on change in drinking age from 19 to 21 (I believe in July 1983). When drinking age was 19, other than fraternity parties, seemed like emphasis was heading to bars to drink.
