Vegas Trip

Marriot Grand Chateau is a great place to stay. The property is non-smoking and does not have casino. However, it’s only a block off the Strip so you can easily walk to the casinos. Plant Hollywood is virtually across the street. All the rooms are villas with kitchens and the rates are reasonable for what you get. Stayed there a half dozen times, and love the place.

As far as gambling, my go to spot is the El Cortez in downtown Vegas. It‘s the only place I have found that offers $5 blackjack with a single deck that pays 3/2 on blackjack. You won’t find that on the Strip, unless you bet $25/hand. Plus, nearly all the places on the Strip require $15/hand and only pay 6/5 on blackjack.

Going out with several family members to cheer on the Cyclones and celebrate my retirement. Should be a blast.

I spoke with someone from UNLV a few months back and the price you quoted is WILDLY inaccurate.

They haven’t actually nailed down prices for 2021 UNLV Single Game Suites yet - they advised Covid could still be an issue in September and they cannot commit to prices. (Again this was 2 months ago but the number you have listed wasn’t in the ‘Ballpark’ figure given).

You may want to actually call and discuss with them.

You may be right, but I would not count on getting any bargains.

Here is the website of one of the suite resellers. Note they are charging $30,000 for a Garth Brooks concert in July.

Also note that they have now listed the ISU-UNLV game as SOLD OUT. Personally, I think that is BS since I just directly spoke with one of their reps last week when this ISU game was not even listed. They told me they had not yet gauged interest on how many suites would be available. I assume they are just trying to pump up the marketplace.

Yeah... Those are outrageous prices... Even for a 3rd party site. (A suite for Garth at WF Arena in DM was only 5k for a 20 person suite).

I’ll look for the contact I spoke with at UNLV and put it out for anyone interested in contacting them directly and getting on their list.

I went to the Florida State game in Arrowhead and the ISU side was half full and the FSU side was empty. Went to the K State vs ISU game in Arrowhead and the stadium was half full. Cyclones travel well to Bowl Games but 30,000 would be a lot for a non-conference game. I'd predict closer to half that although Vegas is a great draw. A hell of a lot better than Boise or Shreveport!

We are planning on road tripping to the UNLV game on September 18, 2021. Fly in on Friday, Game Saturday, Tour Vegas, Hoover Dam, Grand Canyon and area for a few days, drive to San Diego and stay a week and then fly back to SW Iowa. We have never been to Vegas or the area but have been to SD several times. Any suggestions? Should we get a complete Vegas fly & stay package deal or book separately? Any thing on the Strip that stands out? Not in to gambling particularly but shows/acts would work. Appreciate any suggestions.

The only strip recommendation I have is to stay at a place on the monorail.

Getting around on the strip can be a complete pain. We happened to stay at a place with monorail access and had a blast. Up and down the strip was a piece of cake.

Oh...that and half price tickets....

I've been to Vegas twice. The first time, I lost my shirt. The second time I went for the 1999 Iowa State @ UNLV game and hit a Pick 6 - which paid for my trip. I'm even with Vegas and staying that way! fyi: It is a fun road trip, but been there and done that! Let's Go State!

I’m planning on flying out on Thursday and coming back on Sunday. 3 days is about the perfect amount of days to be in Vegas, any more than that is overkill. I plan on staying at the Venetian this go around, but that’s just because I have a **** ton of IHG points from staying in holiday inns over the years and I can cash those in at the Venetian.

Does anyone know when the actual single game tickets will go on sale?

I have not gotten specific fly & stay deals for Vegas, but with my experience of those sorts of deals, that they are cheaper than getting all the things included in the deal separately, but they usually include a bunch of junk that you don't really care for or wouldn't have wanted to get otherwise. For any package deal, look at everything in the package and make sure it is something you would want.

Anyone know the name of hat famous chili/burger place? They are originally an L.A. joint, but I know they have at least one in Vegas. Can't think of the damn name though.
Heart Attack Grill? This guy started in Chandler, AZ and makes no bones about his food. 10,000 calorie burger

The other thing to consider is you can get rooms now and cancel pretty much up to the day before. Flights are trickier.

Booked a room at the Cosmopolitan Thursday through Sunday. I haven’t done Vegas in a while, but people I trust suggested Cosmo.

Cosmo is the best hotel on the strip, and it's not even close. But man has it gotten pricey.
