Unhappy campers are always the easiest employees to poach.

Now we know why Riley updated his LinkedIn a few months ago. OU should have caught on when he changed his Sooner coaching history from "-present" to "-Nov-2021".

July 21: Texas and OU were crowned the smartest teams in college football and ushered in a massive college realignment that was going to shake the world.
November 28: Texas is a dumpster fire and Riley flips the bird at OU.
This has been a fun year to watch.

That happned once in 2011.

During the BCS Era:

In 1998, Tennessee beat Florida State from the ACC
In 2003, LSU beat Oklahoma from the Big Xii
In 2006, Florida beat Ohio State from the B1G
In 2007, LSU beat Ohio State from the B1G
In 2008, Florida beat Oklahoma from the Big Xii
In 2009, Alabama beat Texas from the Big Xii
in 2010, Auburn beat Oregon from the Pac-12
In 2011, Alabama beat LSU from the SEC.
In 2012, Alabama beat Notre Dame (Independent)
In 2013, Florida State from the ACC beat Auburn from the SEC.

Excluding the 2011 Alabama vs. LSU re-match, the SEC Champion played in 9 other BCS Championship Games with an (8-1) record with wins over teams from the Big Xii x 3, the B1G x 2, the ACC, the Pac-12 and Notre Dame. They spread that love around!

Also, don't forget that in 2000, Nebraska from the Big Xii and in 2003, Oklahoma from the Big Xii made it to the BCS Championship Game without winning the Big Xii and both lost. When Alabama went in 2011, they at least won and beat the SEC Champion to boot!

The SEC backed up every single thing in front of them in the BCS Era until Auburn mucked it up in 2013.

Big 12 won or appeared in the national title the following years:
1994 (W)
1995 (W) // considered one of the best teams of all time
1997 (W)
2000 (W)
2001 (L)
2003 (L)
2004 (L)
2005 (W) // considered of the best teams and game of all time
2008 (L)
2009 (L) // I consider a fluke game since Colt McCoy was out (injury was very odd, not sure if there's been any further research into what actually happened there)

I believe this is 10 appearances and national championships in the 16 years the old big 12 existed

sec starts renegotiating long-term rights deals with espn 2009/2010 (shilling and propaganda of the sec myth starts -- have to protect that long-term investment)

big 12 conference realignment starts in 2010

oklahoma state robbed of championship appearance in 2011 (starting the continual changing metrics and deceptive espn talking points to leave out more deserving teams: "worst loss," "best win," "no conference championship," "eye test," etc.)

recruiting cycles occur for a decade with this environment

sec probably has more talent now

Here is the funniest part of today's news regarding LR:
The same Sooner fans who YESTERDAY said that OU lost their chance at the Big 12 championship because of the refs are now saying TODAY that Riley was the real reason.

I would say the only ones really interested in the OU job are those who are currently coaching in the SEC and those are the ones OU really doesn't want, but will have to eventually take. Good for them.

Kiffen, Pittman (Oklahoma born, has been at OU before) and Leach are the only names I can think of. Pittman and Leach are both 60. You'd think they want a younger coach. OU just isn't that sexy of a job in the SEC. Kiffen has a hot seat going 10-2 at OU. Going 10-2 at Ole Miss gets you a statue in The Grove

I think it is also significant that Bobby Stoops will coach OU in their bowl game, not an assistant coach. That indicates to me that the AD doesn't trust Riley's assistants and the AD wants HIS man (stoops) to see what players or coaches will follow Riley.
It's not all hunky dory in boomer less land.

True. But I was thinking of Heupel. Tennessee is not a good gig to have.

The Big 12 was super powerful back then. That is for sure.

I must admit, I have never considered the "Grassy Knoll" Theory before about the Big 12 break-up and the mysteriousness of the Colt injury - which didn't look that serious to the eye when it happened.

Doesn’t he have sanctions on him from when he coached there previously?
Sanctions? I'm not sure about that. But he does have some outstanding parking tickets and some library fines that could keep him from returning.

B1G added Nebraska, Maryland, Rutgers. Look where those three are in the B1G standings!
Missouri and A&M to SEC. How many titles have they won?
Colorado to Pac12- they have fallen off the radar.

Seems like about 90% of these transfers don't pay off on the field. Maybe a few extra bucks is a fair trade off? Wouldn't be for me. What good is more cash if your team is less prestigious, less successful?
