Underrated Horror Movies

I may be in the minority but I'm not a fan of Ti West movies, or of Mia Goth. I don't even really know exactly why. To me his movies and her performances just come off as "Look at how cool and dark and edgy we are" and to me it all seems kind of contrived. But I'm no expert.

Yeah, in "X" she's just part of it and Pearl/Maxxxine she's a lot of it.

House of the Devil could be a 70s movie if you ran it through a filter to look more grainy.

Maybe that's part of it, seems like he tries to make many of his movies look like the 70s and to me it just looks like they're trying too hard.

I saw Shelby Oaks in the theater last night. It’s the debut movie from YouTuber Chris Stuckman. It was pretty good but not great. I am looking forward to what he does in the future though.

Not a specific movie but I think the older special effects of creature features including the 80s were underrated.

Much of it was obviously almost laughably fake but still had some authenticity to it.

X was an homage to the gritty 70's horror
Pearl was an homage to the Panavision movies of the 40's & 50's.
Maxxxine was an homage to the early 80's crime drama/horror

Crazies set in Iowa as a bonus.
Some of the filming locations listed in link below, I know there are more than this list but this is some.

A lot filmed in Lenox

Edit:
supposedly this house in Adair county as well as the ones listed in the site above, in Lenox, was also in the movie. Been a while since I watched it.

Watched this alone in my dark basement a while ago. Not only did I jump multiple times, but had that general uneasy feeling for most of the movie.
The Descent 2 isn’t as good, but still same general feeling throughout.
It is the only movie that has literally made me scream! It was THAT moment (you know which one), but by that point I was so wound up from the claustrophobia, I'm not surprised that I screamed.
