Two missing ingredients on this team right now.

Nice straw man argument. You're right, there is no point between giving up 0 ppg and consistently having teams shoot above their normal %.

Are some shots truly low % and contested yet go in? Of course. The problem is that after every game this happens, they see somewhat contested shots going in and think this is pure chance. Some shots, some entire games, maybe. If you want to watch great 3 pt defense, watch Monte in Forte 2 years ago on Stillwater. It was a huge difference between what we typically see. And most top 5 teams can take a shooter like that and get him out of his rhythm.

Were 33rd in defensive efficiency, after spending the last few seasons in the 70's. Sometimes guys make shots and sometimes we miss shots and sometimes that (amazingly) is what decides basketball games.

Holy crap, our defense is a marked improvement from the Hoiberg years. It's one game people. Somehow some of you thought we'd not lose this year.

Who is is doing that?

Season..Team..ISU..Diff
.408--CU--.391--.017-
.326--C St--.270--.056-
.406--Chatt--.250--.156-
.347--VT--.200--.147-
.377--Ill--.385--.008+
.318--NDSU--.261--.057-
.297--Buff--.267--.030-
.401--iowa--.407--.006+
.289--APB--.300--.011+
.424--UNI--.591--.167+

So 6 of 10 games opponents have shot below their season average against ISU.

In only 1 game (UNI) has an opponent shot more than one and a half percentage points better than their average against ISU. On the flip side, ISU has held 6 opponents to more than one and half percentage points below their average.

The stats do not support your assertion.

Thanks for putting stats on this. I'm glad to stand corrected. Still, we have been in the 150-190 range the last couple years in 3pt against. Which I don't think makes it too surprising when teams go off on us from deep.

Despite all my complaining about the defense, I think this team can be good enough on that end of the court to make a run, provided whistles aren't swallowed in the tourney as usually happens.

I don't want to start a big discussion but since this is a message board....does anyone think if Custer would have stayed he would be playing right now? Hard to tell really. I mean, obviously we could always use another guy in the rotation now that Naz is out, and to give Monte a few minutes of rest, but it just seemed Clayton was overmatched out there. Wish him the best at Loyola, tho. So, when Monte needs a breather, is Hallice our pg or is Georges?
