He wasn’t waving his arm some say.

Hell, I would say the signal the DeJean gave was planned ahead of the time to create confusion. KF isn’t an idiot like Brian and is rolling the dice on setting up a return or drawing a foul to set up a winning field goal. Almost got it for the win. He got the third best outcome which gave him cover in the loss. You can tell from the press conference after the game. The Minnesota coverage team was literally covering the play like it wasn't returnable which certainly aided into Cooper's return though. IMO that isn't being talked about enough.

I'm right there with you. I heard the same thing, but like you I would rather stab myself in the eye with a sharp stick than watch that game to see if that is trueI want to see the fair catch interference penalty that Cooper got. I don't want to watch the whole game, but am curious if he stuck his arms out to initiate the contact like I have been told.
You exactly proved my point. No refs with a view from down on the field called absolutely anything.
I hate to break the bad news to you, but you are in about the 1% minority of people in this country who think it was a go
Not a grey area, very black and white. Any waving makes the ball dead once the receiving team possesses the ball. It was made black and white, because requiring it to be a wave above the head resulting in grey areas and inconsistent judgement calls. I have never witnessed it not called when it happens. Most the time the receiver doesn't catch the ball, so no input from the ref is necessary. When they do, it is usually whistled dead immediately. This time the ref swallowed his whistle for unknown reasons. There is no grey in any waving motion is a fair catch, above the head valid, below invalid. It doesn't matter if you think he was motioning to his teammates to move (or the hilarious lie that's just how he runs), it drives the kicking team to pull off, which obviously in the video they did for a step or two. The first time I saw it called against ISU I didn't know it existed but have known for years.Condon is an idiot and I can't stand him.
It's funny to me, you can read any football or basketball game thread here and people are constantly questioning officials. But now all of a sudden everyone is an expert on all the rules and want officiating to inject themselves into grey areas.
You can’t even do a search for that earlier play because anything including “Iowa Minnesota fair catch penalty Cooper” gets you nothing but results for the final punt.I'm right there with you. I heard the same thing, but like you I would rather stab myself in the eye with a sharp stick than watch that game to see if that is true
His left arm was waving all over the place. What if he was doing the same motion above his head? That would clearly, indisputably be a valid fair catch. If he were doing that and then got blown up as soon as he caught the ball it would be, and Iowa fans would be screaming for a penalty. The same motion below the shoulders is an invalid fair catch signal as defined by the rules which still results in a dead ball. It's the rules and it's a good rule which removes judgement. It's also not near as rarely applied as people are trying to say, they just don't remember it because it's usually blown dead immediately and then isn't memorable.I've decided he was waving his arm, David. So did the official. And since his decision is the only one that matters, suck a fat one
