Now that Cohlton Schultz is off the board, who is the Cyclones top (senior) recruit? Not many blue-chips left on the board that haven't committed already. Some good ones that will be 74/84 in college but we are pretty well set at those 2 weights.

Abe Assad - connection with Gomez and an IL product. ISU has had a lot of success bringing in some IL studs. Starting to get tight in the 65-84/97 range though with good recruits. Not sure how much money the coaches have available still for him.

Carson Kharchla - Great prospect and on everyone's big board now. See above in reference to recruiting in the 65-84/97 range.

Jace Luchau - good in all 3 styles. Could be a 57 in college. Tough kid. Not sure the interest level.

Travis Ford-Melton - another IL stud - could grow into 33 or even 141.

Ridge Lovett - no clue the interest level from either side but a good 41/49 prospect.

Assad is Iowa bound unfortunately. I’d be very surprised to see him anywhere but Iowa City

Definitely after Kharchla, but he’s going to be very tough to get - doubt we land him

Not sure we’re after TFM or Lovett, but we should be

Top senior IMO on our board is blue chipper Ryan Anderson - I see him staying near Home in NJ - he was in DSM for ASU JO this week so hopefully he made the trip up to Ames - staff has visited him. He has us in top3 - he’s probably our best shot at a top kid this year.

Reeves jumps a ton in rankings too. Where he should have been long ago, but Flo always sleeps on Iowa HS kids

I’d also love to get Broderson and DeVos

What are some of Reeves’ credentials prior to Fargo this year?

With as young as the roster is, I could see us wanting to balance the classes a little more. But I agree that Ryan Anderson might be the biggest target. I also think we want Broderson.

Assad and Kharchla are definitely still being pursued, but I am doubtful on either.

If you’re looking for me to give a bunch of data on why he should have been ranked higher, you won’t get them. My opinion has been based off watching him wrestle. And this was from way before he made his switch to ISU. He is very athletic, strong, has unbelievable work ethic, loves wrestling, great technique (has a lot of room for improvement though) and lastly the kid ATTACKS. I also think he is a kid that has a higher ceiling than most other kids you are ranked highly and can improve even more when he hits college.

Flo will weigh their rankings heavily on big tournament results - rightfully so. Super 32, Fargo, Cadet WTT @Akron, FloNationals, Beast of the East, Ironman, etc. It's hard for Iowa kids to get their name on the boards without wrestling in the big tournaments and doing well, no matter how good we perceive them to be. This can be a good thing though as recruits from Iowa can tend to be 'under' recruited and end up 'over' achieving. Some coaches from neighboring programs know this, especially Bono. I think we got a really good one in Reeves and he proved that at Fargo on the big stage.

Michigan is heavy on Assad also, don't sleep on them. Ryan Anderson looks like he doesn't cut weight, wrestles up in weight, and still has baby fat on him. Yet he is really dang good. Could continue to jump levels in college if he has a good S&C coach and takes to lifting too.

You’re 100% right about everything in that post.

That’s nice. I like what I’ve seen of him as well, but that is a pretty crappy reason to rip a rankings system.

Hunter Ritter transfering from Wisconsin. Probably not a fit at Iowa State with Miklus, Colbray & Shapiro

I’m entitled to my opinion. Thanks though.

Ps: other services were much higher on him than Flo. At least they are caught up now.

It's funny how a year ago everyone was calling for M*'s head after Hidlay committed to NC State and the wheels were falling off. M* was a terrible recruiter and not a good fit in the program anymore...lol. The program needed a new coach according to every hawk fan.

But seriously, congrats to Abe and the Hawkeyes. I think he will do great things in that program. Seems like a good fit for both.

I am not going to deny that there is a small faction amongst Iowa fans that are anti M* because of the way he wrestled. In fact, there were a few that were angry that Metcalf went to State and would have rather had him. Most of it had to do with how he wrestled and that are mid weight guys the last few years didn't do much at NCAAs. Many would have rather Zadick stayed vs M* as well but I think the staff made the correct call given the situation at the time.

None of it was grounded in fact. One of M*'s first gets was Kemerer and if wasn't for M*'s relationship with Bull, perhaps he would have stayed at tOSU. We are now seeing Ryan's guys fully in the lineup and we had three All Americans in Kemerer, Bull and Sorensen. Ryan's strengths are that he is not Tom and Terry. This isn't meant to say TnT are bad but I think Tom knows that you can't have full throttle intensity all the time. Within the first five mins of talking to Ryan, you figure out that he is just a really good, laid back dude. If you guys are out at events and should happen upon him, take the time to shoot the **** with him because he will with you.
