Tombstone by a mile.... Val Kilmer was amazing, as was Kurt Russell. Then you got the legendary Sam "Double Douche" Elliott, Bill Paxton, etc. Great cast, great writing, great directing. For me, Tombstone is the best old West movie of all time. Young Guns being a somewhat close 2nd.
I don't know that I'd throw Young Guns quite that high for me, but I really think that's a seriously under appreciated movie for the "Western" genre. I remember having to force my dad to watch it and he's a huge Western nut. He kept saying, "It's just going to be a teeny bop western." because of the cast. It's definitely top 5 for me.

Sorry for the de-rail, but speaking of Westerns, I was bored last night and noticed "The High Plains Drifter" was on Netflix and I was bored. I haven't seen that movie in years. I forgot how good, yet ****** out that movie is.

Tombstone by a mile. Kurt Russell, Val Kilmer, Sam Elliot, Bill Paxton. I could watch that movie multiple times in a day and not be bored. Who didn't want to be Doc Holiday without the TB after seeing that?

"I have two guns. One for each of you."

Tombstone might be as quotable of a movie as there is! "I'm your huckleberry" KILLS me! Val Kilmer delivered so many lines in perfect fashion...should have won an award for that film!

Not going to be popular here but Tombstone is a pretty bad movie outside of Val Kilmer's performance, which is admittedly awesome. I even watched it again a few months ago to see if I was missing something. It's fast paced, so if you need a really fast pace I guess there's that.

If someone has a little patience, appreciates beautiful sound/imagery and a great home theater, Once Upon a Time in the West is so much better than these. Dances with Wolves is a different kind of western but also much better. Unforgiven is a more similar kind of western and far better than these.

Unforgiven is a great western

Anyone who says Wyatt Earp has called down the thunder. I’m coming for ya. And anyone else agreeing with you, you tell them I’m coming and I’m bringing hell with me! You understand Hells coming with me!

Edit: Poor attempt to modify Russell’s iconic scene but you get it.

2nd Edit: Anyone that was at ISU when this was popular I hope you learned what a panty dropper this movie was with the ladies. Don’t know if they just really loved cowboys, but it always ended in Giddy Up.

Wyatt Earp.

Sorry, just true. I'm a fan of the history and Wyatt Earp tells a much more complete story with Wyatt's younger years before getting to Tombstone.

Tombstone completely omits Bat and Ed Masterson who had a big presence there before the gunfight. I think Costner is a much stronger and more stoic Wyatt than Kurt Russell. I know Val Kilmer gets all the love for his portrayal of Doc Holliday, largely for his one-liners, and I do love his performance. But I also think Dennis Quaid's performance is completely underrated. Tombstone plays up the friendship between Wyatt and Doc but some historians believe Doc was probably a closer friend with Morgan Earp than he was with Wyatt. Doc was an educated man, and Morgan was a very curious guy who liked to read, they shared that in common. Wyatt was very business minded, and had a falling out with Doc after the Vendetta ride.

I will say Tombstone does a better job of integrating the Johnny Ringo angle. But it's highly debated that Ringo and Doc had any kind of gunfight at the end, there were no reports or accounts of that ever happening and I don't like the way Tombstone goes all-in on that ending. Most believe Ringo took his own life.

Both great movies but I like Wyatt Earp better.
