I agree w @pourcyne regarding KC acting; plus I don’t like him due to the multiple marriages that ended due to the filming of FOD.I did not know this until recently, but Wyatt Earp lived in Pella, Iowa from around the age of two until he was fourteen.
The real Al Swearengen (Deadwood) was born and raised in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
As for movies, have to go with Val Kilmer in Tombstone because Kevin Costner cannot act his way out of a paper bag and never could.
Another fun little detail in Wyatt Earp was when Wyatt was pursuing Dave Rudabaugh at the time he met Doc in Texas. In the movie Young Guns II Rudabaugh was played by Christian Slater. Doc also had some run ins with Rudabaugh. Just a cool historical addition where movie worlds collide. The wild thing and these movies is Earp and holiday were charged with the murders in the movie. Tombstone definitely leaves the part out about him fleeing somewhere they couldn't extradite him.
Nah, Wyatt just told Behan he wasn’t going to let him arrest them that day, like a badass. The wild thing and these movies is Earp and holiday were charged with the murders in the movie. Tombstone definitely leaves the part out about him fleeing somewhere they couldn't extradite him.
If you voted in this poll...why did you vote for that particular film?
I don't know that I'd throw Young Guns quite that high for me, but I really think that's a seriously under appreciated movie for the "Western" genre. I remember having to force my dad to watch it and he's a huge Western nut. He kept saying, "It's just going to be a teeny bop western." because of the cast. It's definitely top 5 for me.
Sorry for the de-rail, but speaking of Westerns, I was bored last night and noticed "The High Plains Drifter" was on Netflix and I was bored. I haven't seen that movie in years. I forgot how good, yet ****** out that movie is.
Wyatt Earp.
Sorry, just true. I'm a fan of the history and Wyatt Earp tells a much more complete story with Wyatt's younger years before getting to Tombstone.
Tombstone completely omits Bat and Ed Masterson who had a big presence there before the gunfight. I think Costner is a much stronger and more stoic Wyatt than Kurt Russell. I know Val Kilmer gets all the love for his portrayal of Doc Holliday, largely for his one-liners, and I do love his performance. But I also think Dennis Quaid's performance is completely underrated. Tombstone plays up the friendship between Wyatt and Doc but some historians believe Doc was probably a closer friend with Morgan Earp than he was with Wyatt. Doc was an educated man, and Morgan was a very curious guy who liked to read, they shared that in common. Wyatt was very business minded, and had a falling out with Doc after the Vendetta ride.
I will say Tombstone does a better job of integrating the Johnny Ringo angle. But it's highly debated that Ringo and Doc had any kind of gunfight at the end, there were no reports or accounts of that ever happening and I don't like the way Tombstone goes all-in on that ending. Most believe Ringo took his own life.
Both great movies but I like Wyatt Earp better.

To each his own.Who cares? Tombstone was a better movie. I got bored watching Wyatt Earp.
Have you seen Open Range?Lonesome Dove is the greatest western of all time. Tombstone is up there though. So is Young Guns. Dances With Wolves. Haven't even mentioned any Clint Eastwood movies. All great.
Bingo! Lonesome Dove starts any list Ike this. Tombstone is very good also, but when a movie is 6+ hrs long and is able to keep the viewer engaged....it wins. LD will never be topped. No matter how hard Costner tries... LolLonesome Dove is the greatest western of all time. Tombstone is up there though. So is Young Guns. Dances With Wolves. Tombstone may not be an epic masterpiece but it is widely regarded as a beloved and entertaining western. Wyatt Earp is trying so hard to be an epic masterpiece but ends up being a boring slog, and both audience and movie reviewers agree on this. I don't think this is even a debate and the ratio of the poll bears this out.Not going to be popular here but Tombstone is a pretty bad movie outside of Val Kilmer's performance, which is admittedly awesome. I even watched it again a few months ago to see if I was missing something. It's fast paced, so if you need a really fast pace I guess there's that.
If someone has a little patience, appreciates beautiful sound/imagery and a great home theater, Once Upon a Time in the West is so much better than these. Dances with Wolves is a different kind of western but also much better. Unforgiven is a more similar kind of western and far better than these.
Yes. Great Movie.Have you seen Open Range?
That's probably my #1 western of all time. Amazing movie.
