Real quick:

As of now, I'd say I'm 99 percent sure this is happening. Got a great source all but confirming to me. Sounds like the only thing left is putting ink on paper.

DOn't believe the staff has been finalized for next year (who is coaching who) yet. Sounds like that might happen over the weekend.

hmmm...sounds like a staff retreat. Whar?

Everything announced today has me excited. Manning was like and will be liked again. A new person in charge of special teams certainly makes me happy! Freeing up Heacock to do more things with the defense... sounds scary for other teams. For the first time, I believe that the sky is the limit for the cyclone football team. Matt Campbell is one smart dude!

Scheelhase was a QB at IL.

When it comes to certain position coaches those guys are interchangable.

Scheelhaase holds the Illinois Fighting Illini football record for career total offensive yards with 10,634. Other records held by Scheelhaase are the third most career passing yards with 8,568, the highest season completion percentage with 66.74% (287-430), and the second most career rushing yards by a quarterback with 2,066.

He is one of my favorites on the coaching staff. Really sharp and likable guy.

It's interesting because of all of the offensive positions, WR has been one of the best.
Have they though? Outside of Butler this year the group in general was kind of disappointing.

Akers caused almost as many INTs as passes he caught. Eaton didn’t really show much more than he did last year. Milton showed great potential but disappeared for games at a time. Jones still hasn’t lived up to his freshman season.

I’m not trying to be super negative here, just saying that I think there was a lot of unrealized potential, maybe Scheelhasse can elevate the level of play.

Apparently Joe Houston the ST Coordinator also got reassigned.

...good news
I think this was more to do with recruiting and the new guys being a year older than performance. He was basically in charge of ST in 2017 when they had a great year. Now that the new guys have a had a year of coaching from a specialist and they aren't recruiting anymore highly soughtafter punters and kickers, they're filling his spot with someone more useful in the recruiting game (i.e. someone who wasn't a kicker).

I think some of these guys were a bit of a disappointment because Purdy really targetted Butler a lot, probably too much at times. Also, for the first time in a long time ISU has TEs that can catch the ball. Milton is a great player, and will be getting a lot more targets next year.

So why did they not renew Gasser? Was it his choice or were they disappointed with his results?

Bottom line having TM as full time OC and OL guru certainly is a big deal and can only improve this program...he’s not coming back to replace cmc..my god people.

WV asst is a complete steal by cmc..to grab him and not technically have him count as staff is huge..

Sad to see Gasser go..he had been with cmc for long time..but he’s young and wanted the OC gig..so can’t blame him.

Level of excitement just increased 10 fold for 2019..

I'm pretty sure the WV guy will be staff. The guy that was special teams last year is back in administrative role.

Gasser leaves--Manning fills that spot.
Special teams guy gets reassigned--WV guy fills that spot on the staff.

I can agree with that, too. I can’t imagine Purdy progressed beyond his first read too often due to Butler being the primary more often than not and the o line never giving him time to progress beyond the 1st read.

My biggest complaint on special teams was the punt return scheme. There was no blocking for a return, and no effort to block. We just seemed to release everyone and hope for a fare catch. Blocking for field goals was also suspect obviously.

I have to wonder. Scheelhaase helped bring in two four star talents for his position room in yjis class.

Two. For one running back spot.

Huh.

So..,three wide receiver spots. Can we expect him to land six four-star wideouts in the 2020 class?

(*I’d settle four three five-stars. Don’t want him to
Strain himself right out of the chute.)

Agree. With Butler’s and Milton’s big jumps, it’s tough to be critical of the WR coaching. We lost a lot from last year

If CMC really wants to be an NFL coach and bring his “guys” with him as coaches they will need NFL experience. Manning got his year in now it’s time for Gasser to get a few years. They will rotate 1 or 2 guys a year for the next 5 or 6 years. At that time CMC will have won a couple NC at ISU, accomplishing his mission per the plan. He will then look at the NFL as his next step and be able to hire most of his team at that time since they will all have some NFL experience. Isn’t this the obvious plan?
