To the Naysayers:

We’re back to the McCarney/Rhoads era, somehow winning games that we shouldn’t (but dropping turds in games that we should win handily). But, let’s give mediocrity a standing ovation.
This is one of those Hyperbolic statements of irrational thought.

Rhoads had 1 winning season. With 7 wins.
Mac 1 winning conference season while playing in the Big 12 North.

Not much is more funny than when finally winning a game after coming off of a long losing streak, to the likes of Colorado mind you, for someone to post…. “Where are all the naysayers at now!!!”

I just think when you return so much production and it looks like people on offense have never played the game of football before, that's a little concerning....and we're seeing the exact same errors each week. That's on the coaches and the players.
We returned zero production at the wide receiver position which has been our biggest offensive problem.

The offense had nearly 200 less yards than TCU and needed a punt return to win. Rocco, the receivers, the play calling all bad.

The defense stepped up with all the injuries but still can’t get off the field on third down by actually making the play.
They had 2 games where they gave up more than 24 points. 1st was right after they lost 2 starting DBs

Points per game given up is in the top half of the Big 12 and just outside top 40 in the country.

Defensively they are not different than what they were last year They actually are giving up less points this year vs last by over a point. Both years decimated by injuries.

When healthy ISU defense historically is around 20-21 points per game given up

Last year Rocco ran for over 300. This year I believe he broke 100 yesterday

Last year 2 NFL receivers this year a group of receivers that are 2nd in the Big 12 in drops

Last year had very good kicker all year. This year missed all of October.

Last year pretty good RedZone offense. This year one of the worst in the country

So if we say this years defense sucks, we have to say last year's 11 win D also sucked, cuz they could not get off the field either and gave up more points per game

Kind of sums up the difference between 10 regular season wins vs what could be 7 or 8 this year.

Fine line between winning and losing

You didn't like the scoring drive when Rocco scrambled to make a huge play that changed the course of the game?

Any win is good and ******** about it after the how last 5 weeks has gone is weird.

Of course I am happy we won but I don’t think it’s weird that I refuse to stick my head in the sand and say everything is going well.

How well do you need things to go with the make up of ISU's team?

It was ugly but that's how it could go even if ISU were winning over the last month.

Heck the 5-0 wasn't exactly smooth sailing for the most part.

Agree. But it seems like it’s some horrible hot take if you show any optimism with the team on this board.
LOL, this is beyond silly. And ridiculous.

For the millionth time, Iowa State fans are among the most humble, optimistic, and tolerant fan bases in sports. Not college sports - all sports.

And no, fans did not "blast other fans" at the first sign of adversity. Again, what a beyond stupid thing to say. Just pure projection and embarrassing.

Just look at the sheer volume of posters on THIS message board posting things like...

"I am proud of the effort today. I am frustrated by losing 4 straight, frustrated with injuries and coaching decisions, but happy to see them get fighting and get a nice win today. They deserved it!"

"It is upsetting that our title hopes derailed because many mistakes were due to our own lack of discipline, but we can still win out and get to 9 wins which would be amazing!"

^These random examples are VERY positive things to say! VERY optimistic. This type of sentiment is permeating through Cyclone Nation right now. And this exact type of sentiment would be LAUHGED AT on most message board sites for other schools. It would literally be viewed as the most positive 'thing' you would ever see on those boards, and a poster posting these things would be ridiculed beyond imagination. The WORST message board day in Cyclone Fanatic history wouldn't make the Top 50 Worst Days on most other fan sites.

So no, it does not, at all, in any way "seem like it is a horrible take if you show optimism" - thinking this way is damn near intentionally obtuse. Showing optimism/positivity (in the face of adversity and frustration) is the defining characteristic of Cyclone Nation.

Terrible?

Holy cow.
Definitely not a terrible team. We’ve seen terrible.
Defense is all about injuries obviously. We’ve talked about it enough.
Offense just isn’t right for some reason and hasn’t been for some time. They are just off as a unit, especially in the passing game. But it seems like it’s a funk they could literally come out of at any point. It’s just weird. Also not having a kicker for multiple games put a lot of pressure on them to have to score TDs. Someone will have to go back at some point and see how many points were left on the field because we had no one to kick a field goal.
