We toasted Coach Mac for 12 great years, and hoped that both you and Coach Chiz would stay around long enough for ISU to get to greater heights. We're ready to drink the kool-ade and hope for better days to come, but you know what - we're been down this road before. Hey - We didn't just fall off the turnip truck yesterday, by the way.

Wow! I actually read all of this rant but the section above is the salient passage of this diatribe. "We toasted Coach Mac for 12 great years"...this guy is still upset that we let McCarney go! He would have found something to be upset about no matter what transpired on Saturday...because his beloved coach Mac is now the D-line coach at USF.

Just as a point of reference, all coaches get only a certain number of days and sessions for "spring practice"...they have to use this very valuable time as the think is best. Additionally, most schools are going away from the "old style" spring game concept for a number of reasons:

+they can't focus on the areas they want to focus on as well in a game as they can with a controlled scrimmage
+if they divide teams evenly then they don't have certain players playing together and if they divide teams to keep starters together then they have mismatches and don't get a realistic look
+they want to avoid injuries (especially with a team that has limited depth to start with)
+they don't want to give away too much of their playbook

Frankly, this guy is probably sitting in too good of a seat for how little he donates to the university.

Good catch.

About the only rational thing in this entire thread.

Seeing how the original poster hasn't been back since this post, I'm guessing he's laughing at the pot he stirred here.

MJones34...in reference to the post I left above: I am talking to the original poster / whiner. Your post pretty much sums up my feelings.

Great find cyclone #1...

I stopped reading before that but I completely agree. He is a Mac disciple and is used to sugar coating crap with enthusiasm...since chizik didn't say our spring game opponent was north division runners up 3 years ago and beat iowa 6 out of the last 9 years he felt betrayed.

ISU0454 - I don't even know where to start on what kind of football/sports idiot you are. I think the IQ of all the good fans on this board dopped from that post alone. The spring game is not a circus or a sideshow...it serious business...its about the team not the fan. I think you should just go give back your season tickets...

ISU0454, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Fellow CF'ers, you may disagree with one another on points. We all have varying opinions. Please make your points, debate, etc. but do not fracture the fan base. Telling someone to "give back your season tickets" because they offer a strong opinion or point of view you don't agree with is not right. We need to build a fan following. Have y'all ever heard of diversity? - it means more than just color/race.

RedStorm - not singling you out because you're not the only one on here to express a similar attitude.

The thing we can NOT afford to forget on this board is that we are all Cyclone fans first and foremost. Unless of course it was a Squawk poser which is possible, but we have to assume the best here.

You guys sure picked a debatable subject but it's getting to be so far from the original topic that most probably don't remember what it was. Please keep all personal attacks and things off the baords. We try to keep it civil here so people can post their opinions without fear of being called names by fellow Cyclones.

Lest anyone get insulted by some thoughtless phrase such as "...your MOM goes to college..." (Napoleon Dynamite)

This was something that I was concerned about, I just figured that it wouldn't happen until Fall. I was worried that the people who were most upset about letting Dan McCarney would be looking for any reason to criticize Gene Chizik.

Nevermind the facts, there were people here this past Fall, and we all knew who they were, that were all about giving the guy yet another "last chance," (making it his 7th). And were vocal in all kinds of forums, not just CF sorry Jeremy, about the "mistake" that it was. These people are waiting for Gene to make mistakes, and they will pounce.

The thing that people really need to remember is that regardless of all of the accolades he received, this is Gene's first go around as a head coach. HE WILL MAKE MISTAKES. Let's just hope that he will learn from them, and we don't see the same thing over and over.

Cyclone fans have demonstrated great patience in the past, I think that we owe it to our new coach to show him the same. He won't want it, and he won't accept the losing, but he will actually go out and try to do something about it, not make excuses.
