Tiger Lane Tailgating Spots

Question about Tiger Lane. In this photo provided by one of you Tiger fans, it looks like most people don't even use the 10x10 grass area. It looks like many of them consolidate parking spaces for bigger tents. I don't even see many vehicles parked there.

Let us know a little more about how this works.

That may be a bowl game. Tiger fans usually do use the grass. The large grassy area in the middle sometimes has bounce houses, and games for kids. It's also a great place to socialize or start a game of tag football. The picture I tried to upload is too large. Follow this link for some pics of how tiger fans use Tiger Lane. http://blog.tigerbookstore.com/tiger-lane-tailgating/

Thanks. This photo looks more like what I was expecting.

So, you pull through, park on the inside and then set up your tent in the grass? And is there someone pulling in right ahead of you for a lane on the other side?

I don't know if this will help, but I went to Google Earth and then to Street View and you can drive down any one of the four streets that make up Tiger Lane. As you go down one of the streets, on both sides you have head-in paved parking spots with a 10 foot grassed median between the curb and sidewalk. The paved parking spot and 10 foot grass median and electrical outlet is yours for tailgating. The large empty grassy mall shown on previous photos is not for tailgating.

Correct. From the middle, it looks like a regular parking lot. You would back into your space, put up your tent behind you in the grass, and someone would be in the space across from you, both across the grass, and in many spots parked in the space ahead of you. In the grass section, there is a sidewalk in the middle that has to remain clear.

This is all correct. The large grassy area sometimes has Bounce Houses and games for the kids. I am not sure if it will for the bowl game, but since it is our home field, and we know it's ok, they may be set up. It is also not usual for people to be tossing a ball around, or just hanging out in the grass in the middle.

Thanks. Originally, I thought it was only two lanes of tailgating on either side of the big grassy area. Now, I see that there are actually eight lanes for tailgating. Looking forward to finding out what spots they give me.

So, once the spots are filled, do people set up tents/games/tables both on the grass and in the lane you use to drive in? I see that you keep the walking lane clear, but how about the driving lane once the spots are taken?

I have never seen it done that way, but I haven't ever been to a Bowl game there. The lots around Tiger Lane usually fill up with tailgaters, too. The grassy areas around all the lots are usually full of tents.

Iowa State implemented a new policy this year in which they would barricade driving lanes once the spots were full so that people could do whatever they wanted in the driving lane. It eliminated people coming late and driving aimlessly through the lanes looking for an open spot and making everyone move out of their way.

It is possible. Tiger lane is also a dead end, so maybe once everyone is in, they will do this. I'm excited to see all of this. It seems like, looking here, that there will be just as much cardinal and gold as blue and grey. It should be great atmosphere.

I just saw that in addition to Tiger Lane being sold out, the Blue lot is sold out, as well. You guys are bringing it!! Love it. Can't wait for this game.

Things Cyclone fans love:
1. Alcohol
2. Tailgating
3. Fred Hoiberg

Things Cyclone fans hate:
1. Hawkeye trolls
2. Tommy Tubberville
3. That feeling when you really have to sneeze, but can't

*I have no scientific evidence to back any of this up

Well, we will have two of the things you love, and unfortunately, one you hate, but it wasn't our fault, so don't hold it against us.
While you are here, maybe add Memphis BBQ and Southern hospitality to that love list. :)

Which BBQ is "Memphis" BBQ? Sweet, spicy, smokey, tangy? Cause they're all delicious.

Also, being in Memphis, are you legally required to listen to Elvis at your tailgate?

Here's one of the best pics of one part of Tiger Lane (Tiger Lane South) that I could find. Definitely, we could use a setup like that at our stadium. Also there is a youtube video of U of Memphis announcing the construction of Tiger Lane. Has some good architectural renderings of the design.tiger lane 7.jpg

First, let's start at the beginning, Memphis BBQ is ALWAYS smoked pork. But, it's smoky, warm, and a little tang. Go to Central BBQ, while you're here. There are locations all over the city, but it's my personal favorite.

I should tell you to have Elvis, cause that would be hysterical, but no, we will know for sure you are from out of town, if you do that. Most native Memphians have never even been to Graceland. My husband didn't go, until he was in his 30's, and he only wen't then, because we had a visitor from Germany who wanted to go.

I found a better map. It is a PDF. Looks like there is 586 Tiger Lane spots. Last time we had spot F205. Not sure what we will get this time. Hopefully the file I uploaded works. I wonder how many of the 586 Tiger Lane Spots cyclone fans have. I have 2.

That pic is from a BBQ contest, not a game.

Thanks for stopping by with the info. If you're not trolling, we're pretty welcoming of opposing fans.

What's the consensus within your fan base about the bowl game? Are you guys excited to stay at home or bummed about not getting the opportunity to travel? Were you hoping for a different opponent? Do you feel like you'll win, expecting a loss, expecting a blowout one way or the other, etc?

The LB is good for this year but not as a regular trip. Players deserve the reward of traveling. This group of seniors has been bowling every year so this year enjoying the benefits of playing one last time on their home field is a plus. Before this senior class we were an embarrassment to the FB world.

We had our sights set on the Peach so most bowls we could get would have been a disappointment. We are happy to be playing in the LB. We are glad to have an opponent who is showing up with a good crowd. And you guys seem to be a good sort.

We expect to win. We are used to playing and beating P5 folks so that should not be an obstacle. Certainly not cocky. We expect a good game.

for what it's worth, the 30 outlook says temps in the low to mid 50s and no rain.
Man plans, God laughs!

Question for Memphis locals. Is Tiger Lane open on Friday night if we want to set up for tailgating? Can you come in anytime on Friday? And can we stay there overnight? We may be arriving very, very late.
