Look at the payouts, ratings, sponsorships, crowds and brands before and after. That's Tiger. Golf was of course popular, but Tiger made it much bigger than it ever was or was going to be.

No, I'm pretty sure it was Lee Trevino's and Bob Barker's cameos in Happy Gilmore that did all that.

The PGA Tour handed out $101 million in prize money in 1996 (Tiger's last year as an amateur) and $292 million in 2008 (the last year of the Tiger Woods era).
