I saw somebody leave their cart at home depot a couple days ago and it only took about 10 seconds as they walked away to drift toward a car and hit it. I actually ran toward it but couldn't get there to stop it.

We have 2 different size carts at the store I frequent the most. If there aren't many carts in the corral I will separate them into two separate lines so it is more organized.
Then I laugh at myself because that is the sort of thing my dad would have done.

Whenever possible I try to park my car near one (not necessarily right next to it), and always put the cart back. I also put it on the side of the coral with the same size carts at Hy-vee where there are full size & minis.

I always return the cart, not so much because I'm a good person, but rather because my rampant anxiety causes me to think if I don't return it it could roll away and set into motion a series of catastrophes for which I'd be responsible.

So if you are parked up front near the store, do you walk it further away to out it in a corral, park it outside the store, or take it in?

I usually put it in front of the store on the walkway areas so it doesn't get into the parking area, but I'm sure that causes problems as well. I used to take them in, but with stores separating the in and out doors with Covid, walking in and then out immediately has become cumbersome.

Also, if Aldi thinks everyone is terrible people by charging a quarter, what does that mean for Fareway that won't let a customer out of the building on their own with a cart?

I just park near the cart stalls when I arrive. Going to end up there anyway when I'm done so it is just more efficient. After reading the comments about launching carts, I am now rethinking that strategy.

I always put my cart in an appropriate location. I do NOT clean up other peoples cart messes.
Interesting to say the least. If I see an abandon cart and its somewhat near my parking, Ill just grab that and push into the store to use. Always return the cart, about 40% of the time Ill walk it all the way back into the store. Having done the cart wrangler job in highschool... that sucked. Ill do my part to make it not incredibly terrible.

I don't think that you're automatically a good person by putting your cart away, but you're automatically a bad person if you don't.

I always put the shopping cart back where it belongs. Even put stray carts where they belong and frown at people who leave them wherever, not that somebody like that would ever realize what was going on.

I doubt u would be liable because the store is not liable for run away cart damage.
