The Odyssey trailer 2 (full trailer)

I was trying to buy advance tickets to a matinee at one of the few true 70mm Imax cinemas, but since it's in Canada I have to have a device in Canada with a Canadian phone number to buy online. Still thinking about taking a day off and making the 97km trip.

I would normally agree. However, these are the same group of actors that get mad when someone plays a cuban person who isn't Cuban. John Leguizamo made a huge deal out of it. So in one sense I don't give a rip who plays who, on the other guys like him need to shut their yapper if they can be in movies where a certain race plays someone who isn't that race. He threw a fit about James Franco plaing Fidel Castro. At the same time the whole thing is really stupid. If Franco is a good actor and can play Castro, Go for it.
I see your point to an extent (like when there was 'outrage' over Bryan Cranston portraying a quadripalegic) and John L. has been hypocritical in his comments, but your example of Castro is about a real person, and The Odyssey is fiction.

Like when there was 'outrage' a few years ago about the skin tone of the Little Mermaid...can you imagine getting that upset about a story that features singing fish?

I see that a certain group of people are up in arms because Helen of Troy is being played by a black woman and that Nolan had the audacity to cast a trans actor. It's just laughably stupid that this group of people gets worked up about something so trivial, especially when neither is even close to a main character in the story. There will no doubt be review bombing by internet trolls but I hope that doesn't deter people from seeing the movie.
I've always maintained that Zac Efron would have been an awesome casting as Black Panther.

You could argue that he is kinda in a league of his own. He only has 12 (soon 13) films in his arsenal. Spielberg has like 35 and there are some pretty average or downright bad movies of his. Same for Scorcese. He has like 20+ but feel he has less average movies than Spielberg which makes sense...Spielberg often is a huge blockbuster director...Marty isn't. I won't comment on Kubrik. He's a visionary for sure but the only movies I think are good are Dr. Strangelove, Clockwork Orange, and Eyes Wide Shut (ducks and covers).

Nolan really doesn't have a clunker or HORRIBLE movie in all 12 of his. I don't like some of them but they aren't garbage.

Tarantino, PTA, Cohens, Sydney Lumet maybe?

Maybe not legitimate reviews but you can find all the negativity you can stomach on tik tok. The fragile ego bros are out in full force for this one.
The negativity campaign by the anti-woke crowd has been ridiculous on this one.

I was lost on Tenet but gave it a re-watch and while it's unquestionably his most disjointed film IMO I have to say I appreciate it way more after more views. Still not great. But it's not as bad as people overall think. DKR has some great stuff but agree it's pretty underwhelming coming after TDK for sure.

My Nolan rankings would be:

12-Following
11-Insomnia
10-Tenet
9-Dark Knight Rises
8-Memento
7-Batman Begins
6-Interstellar
5-Oppenheimer
4-Dark Knight
3-Inception
2-Dunkirk
1-The Prestige

The top four are really close and depending on mood could be any order.
Could not agree more on The Prestige being #1. I thought about that movies for days after seeing it. Phenomenal in every regard.

I appreciate Nolan swings big even if it doesn't always connect.

The Dark Knight Rises and Tenet just aren't very good even if I appreciate the ambition. And I know he didn't direct them, but the Snyder DC superhero films he produced weren't very good either.

I would see the Eggers films again and you're right they're stunning visually but they're often an uncomfortable watch. The incest in The Northman, the necrophilia in Nosferatu, etc., are really creepy.

I should amend my previous statement about a good "dark" version of "The Odyssey" on film.

Cold Mountain is more or less that version. And it's good though not quite definitive.

I didn't see 'Rises' and almost had a seizure.

Plenty of faux outrage to go around. On all sides.
